With Oscar cross-dressing and crossing over to HBO, and Haymon making moves with NBC, it seems Showtime might be left azz out:
Are you ready for some boxing? On prime-time national over-the-air TV?
Word in boxing circles is that Al Haymon, the power behind Floyd Mayweather Jr. and other current stars, has a deal in the works with NBC. While most of the reported 24 boxing events in Haymon's proposal would be shown on the NBC Sports Network, four are believed headed for the Pea**** itself.
Kathy Duva, head of Main Events, told BoxingScene.com that Haymon & Co. is replacing her group as NBC Sports' provider of boxing. Haymon's reported $20 million offer outstrips Main Events' ability to provide content, Duva said.
Haymon isn't kidding around.
"He's promised NBC that he's going to take his fighters off premium cable ... He's going to put Showtime and HBO out of the puzzle," Duva said. "And he's going to do away with pay per view and create an over-the-top network. He's got the fighters and he's presumably got the money. I wish him the best and I totally and sincerely mean it. ... I pray he doesn't blow it, because if he does, we're not going back to (network TV for a while.) If he's successful, all the networks will want boxing."

Al haymon is WORSE than don king, he's just smarter about it.
Haymon also makes sure his fighters are paid WELL. None of his fighters complain about money or try to say that they were ripped off. They all sing his praises, especially when it comes to purses. Don King did not have that reputation whatsoever. So Haymon doesn't even come close to King.

Haymon had a vision a few years ago, and he executed with a very smart plan.
Sneak in as a manager, become their trusted advisor. Do the most you can for them in these years in order to gain their trust and loyalty. All of these guys talk very highly of Haymon and it is because he has made sure they have been paid nicely. He acts as their friend, as a person who looks out for them and the fighters have followed like sheep (with good reason).
HOWEVER, expect things to change once Haymon gets his feet planted on the promoting business (at least 3-4 years into it). He'll just become like any other promoter, but this was his way of breaking into a tough market that was/is mostly dominated by two companies. It is VERY hard for small promoters like Dibella and such to have as much impact as TR and GB, so imagine how hard it would be for a new promoter. Haymon built his reputation and slowly gathered support by sneaking into one of the most influential positions in any work field, manager/advisor.
I tip my hat off to him, because as a fellow entrepreneur (we are always thinking of new ideas/concepts of how to break into different markets successfully), you can't help but to admire his strategy and vision.
