    Floyd Is Actually A Puncher

I'm creating a new thread for this topic, because I feel that it merits discussion and is a contrary opinion to the commonly-held belief that Floyd Mayweather has average / below-average punching power.

This opinion is based on the fact that whenever Floyd opens up and lands, he has shown that he can visibly hurt his opponent. What solidifies this, is also the fact that he never sits down on his punches, drops his knee or fully commits to the shots, and he is still able to hurt someone. If you need proof in the higher weight classes - look at the Cotto fight.

To wit, Shane Mosley said that Floyd had punching power equivalent to Canelo Alvarez, who is a full weight class above him. Floyd was also considered a puncher in the lighter weight classes during the first part of his career. I would argue that his well-known hand problems are not only a valid excuse for pot-shotting later in his career, but would entirely explain why he doesn't unload on an opponent to try and take him out. Being a safety-first fighter is the primary reason for this, of course, but the hand problems are apparent.

He's used Winning gloves in fights numerous times, and if you look at the way he wraps his hands, he uses a considerable amount of soft gauze compared to other fighters. You don't voluntarily do that unless you have serious hand issues.

I agree that Floyd generally use to have power earlier in his career.
But since he his hands went to crap, he became much more of a counter puncher.

Rarely does he ever sit down on his punches or try to get his opponent out of there.

No he's not, never has been.

Had quite good power at 130 but not a big puncher.

      Definitely isn't a puncher today.

Yawn, he's feather fisted get over it. He's one of the most accurate punchers ever and is flat footed and hasn't really hurt anybody in a decade. Using cotto as examole is poor because hes been wobbled plenty of times. Cheap shots don't count.

Floyd has respectable power. Or maybe it's the accuracy that makes guys shy. I think it has more to do with the latter

did you see the gatti fight? he hit a defenseless gatti with everything he had and couldn't budge him. when you have a guy with no defense in front of you and hit him at will you can't punch for sh-it. in the lower weights the same thing happened. he got a bunch of corner stoppages but could never put away guys. his two best ko's are when hatton knocked himself out against the ring post and the sucker punch against quitter ortiz. if he's such a good puncher please post some devastating ko's that he has? video not found

Why are certain fans so insecure about their boxers being feather fisted? Must be why there's so much envy when it comes to GGG.

I'm not a Floyd fan. Everyone who posts something positive about Floyd isn't necessarily a Floyd fan, you know.

                  Haha don't kill me.

This thread is ridiculous. Now more than ever Floyd sits on his punches and he can't budge anyone. He hit maidana flush multiple times and couldn't budge him. Give it up already, great fighter, average to below average puncher.

money has power in both hands. he only use it when he gets the fighter hurt. he fights on skill and defense. not on brawling
