Many times the best Mexican fighters are significantly smaller than American fighters, and when they do meet there's a size disparity. For example, the one time Floyd fought a Mexican in his ideal weight was Castillo. Both were still in their primes and he escaped with a controversial decision, and a competitive but clear decicion in the rematch.

For what it's worth I see American boxing as being ahead at the top with guys like Floyd and Ward. I still think overall, including all weights, Mexico is slightly ahead at the moment.

That's not always the case. Morales vs. Raheem, Margarito vs. Mosley/Williams, Canelo vs. Trout, and I'm sure there are a ton of others.

Personally, I think Mexico needs to start by getting a legitimate world champion. There isn't one fighter that can right now say he is THE guy in his weight class. All of the fighters are just title holders.

But Canelo will have a chance against Cotto and Estrada will have it against Gonzalez.

          I responded to (quote):

"In regards to fighters, Mexico is boss at the lower weights but it cannot compete with the US at the higher divisions."

What you said implied that the US has carved out some unique weight niche... It really hasn't. The top US fighter is in divisions with Mexicans and above that the US has a skeletal representation at best.

          From the original post:

U.S. World Champions: 12 (Floyd Mayweather Jr., Bernard Hopkins, Andre Ward, Terence Crawford, Chris Algieri, Demetrius Andrade, *Mikey Garcia, *Danny Garcia, *Omar Figueroa, Anthony Dirrell, Mickey Bey, Lamont Peterson)
Almost all of those guys are small. There are basically 2 legitimate top US fighters in the "too big for Mexicans" divisions you allude to. 2.

I live in the US not Mexico but I aint blind son, once the sport went international any semblance of american dominance evaporated and the legacies of the "legends" was greatly diminished.

It is close but at the moment the US is still probably in front as they have a bit more quality at the very top compared to the Mexicans. In terms of depth they are pretty equal.

Floyd beat the **** outta the two best Mexican fighters.....
                    Bradley beat jmm
                    Broner beat the #1 lw
                    Bey just beat Vasquez
                    Mikey Garcia beat Salido

Most of the top Mexican fighters lose to the top American fighters.

Boxing is probably in the bottom 5-8 as far as sports in america yet Americans still have the best fighters.
