Comments Thread For: Canelo Feels Lara 'Doesn't Deserve' A Rematch

NEW YORK – Canelo Alvarez was willing to talk Tuesday about fights against Joshua Clottey, Miguel Cotto and Gennady Golovkin.

One fight the Mexican star dismissed during an informal gathering with boxing writers at HBO’s Manhattan building was a rematch against Erislandy Lara (19-2-2, 12 KOs). Alvarez barely beat the Cuban-born southpaw by split decision July 12 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Lara lobbied for a rematch in the immediate aftermath of their first fight and thereafter, but Alvarez isn’t interested because he believes Lara ran from him during much of their 12-round Showtime Pay-Per-View main event.

Its true i didnt like the way lara fought, but anyway lara won more rounds and the fight. Of course canelo dont want a rematch because it was a gift from his daddy the la hoya.

I wouldn't mind a rematch, just not anytime soon.

I think Lara won, but he kept his belt, and probably lost potential fans. Who would wanna see that again? Canelo-GGG is a way better proposition.

Lara has to understand when you're fighting ppv and you're not a big name you better make for compelling action. He blew his chance for a rematch as Alvarez doesn't need him. Haymon's not going to build Lara back up with fights against Ishe Smith, Austin Trout II, or Carlos Molina. I don't even know if a fight with Andrade would be that exciting (I want to see it, but I might regret it).

He has to earn it again, take a fight with andrade and unify some belts...beat kirkland i mean those are 2 names that would garner attention towards a rematch...ill be fair you know, but would i be anxious to see it again???? Probably not.

I agree his performance doesn't warrant one.

They'll fight again if they both keep winning. I don't want that rematch next year with the current potential match-ups for Canelo. Maybe 2016
