Comments Thread For: Rigondeaux’s Manager: With Avalos Out, We Want Quigg

Guillermo Rigondeaux won’t be fighting Chris Avalos next, and so Rigondeaux’s manager is aiming at another name in the 122-pound division, Scott Quigg.

“On hearing that Matchroom [is] taking Rigondeaux challenger Chris Avalos down a different route, we have decided to force Rigondeaux-Quigg,” tweeted Gary Hyde on Saturday.

I doubt Quigg would take the fight, especially with the Frampton showdown roaming around the corner. If they do manage to get Quigg to come out and challenge Rigo for his belts, I seriously doubt he will take the fight for the peanut shells and lint Caribe Promotions bids for.

Historically, it's been almost impossible for WBA Champs to get the WBA to force Super WBA champs to face them, or vice versa. WBA created the separates belts specifically to protect fighters. Unless the two fighters want to face each other, WBA doesn't push the issue.

Trout originally couldn't get the WBA to force a Cotto fight, and instead gave them their own separate mandatories. Celestino Caballero wrote multiple letters trying to get the WBA to force Chris John to face him, but the WBA refused. And obviously Golovkin could never get Sturm.

        ^^^Great post and inside info!!!

I didn't know the WBA history of politics regarding its super champions. What is the history of a super champion attempting to face a regular champion though??

That is what where are dealing with in this scenario as Rigo is the super champion turning his attention to the regular champion Quigg unlike those other scenarios were the regular champion was attempting to get a big fight with the super champion.

What is more likely in any event is that the WBO mandates the #2 fighter Genesis from the Philliphines for the title shot in November. He just turned 23 this summer and he is 25-0, a better record than Chris Avalos has with two losses.

This is pathetic to see a world champ and, in my mind, #2 P4P fighter in the world, challenging other fighters to come fight him. This all started with Arum talking him down after he beat one of his cash cows. This dude has 14 wins and 9 by KO. That's a decent KO percentage, yet he's not entertaining? GBP needs to sign this dude and put him up against mares and Santa Cruz

So Rigo's managers (Caribe) were not happy with Arum for not getting him quality fights and money, then they (Caribe)had the chance to bid on the coming Rigo's fight and did so low that they won't be able to find any quality fighter willing to face Rigo for the amount they bid whose fault is it now that Rigo is not getting quality fights and money?

They couldn't get Avalos. How are they going to get Quigg?

Good Luck Trying To Get Him In The Ring

I stand by my prediction that: Frampton, Leo Santa Cruz and Quigg all likely move up in weight instead of fighting Rigondeaux
