The thing I take away from this is Canelo-Lara was very anticipated within the boxing community, it was the fight we all wanted for Canelo, and they only did 230K.

Cotto-Martinez also was very anticipated within the boxing community. It was the fight we all wanted to see for Cotto, and they only did a reported 350K, which was probably closer to 300K in reality.

So Cotto and Canelo both coming off the fights that boxing fans wanted to see them in did a combined ~550K. Compare that to Mayweather's fights vs. Guerrero, Maidana I, and Maidana II, all of which did ~800K each.

I think what boxing fans are most afraid of finding out is that Hispanic fighters do not control the PPV money like everyone wants us to believe. Imagine if Mayweather (African-American) vs. Khan (Pakistani-British) does more PPV buys than Cotto (Puerto Rican) vs. Canelo (Mexican).

The boxing world would be thrown for a loop.
HBO doesn't lie about their numbers like Showtime, they said it did 375k, they made some money but they were hoping for 500k. 230k for Canelo/Lara is abysmal.

Good for Floyd but bad for Showtime and bad for us fans as Floyd takes up the majority of thier budget leaving little money for other interesting matchups. This is the reason why we get Haymon fighters vs Joe Schmo.
Showtime has done well since signing Floyd. what they haven't done is unseat HBO as the main boxing network.

Their ratings have increased immensely and they've reaped the benefits of selling about 4.7 million ppv's from floyd. Subscriptions are up as well-although again not what I think they hoped for.

The 230k number is in reference to the Cotto/Martinez fight not Canelo/Lara.

Yep. He knocked down inflated Canelo numbers then compared them to the still-inflated Floyd numbers.

They treat PPV numbers the same way everyone in the WWE is listed as 7'4" 560 lbs

No it wasn't, he was talking about Canelo's past 2 PPV fights. Even if it was in reference to the Cotto number, it is a complete lie and just speaks to his lack of integrity which does nothing for his credibility.

              • Pacquiao's PPV numbers were in the 300,000 range against Morales. You dont expect Canelo to draw 1 million over night but i think he eventually will. Obviously fighting the Clotteys of the world wont help him though

You gotta beat a name to make it there....had he beat Mayweather, he could've been at that level. Cotto might not bring him there, but he'll do more than Angulo/Lara combined
