This little bit of news isn't remotely interesting. Floyd will get the May date, if he wants it, and won't have any competition. I'll bet all my points on it.

Canelo wants the Cinco de Mayo date?
        But Mayweather has it currently..
Who's in a position to decide which boxer gets that date?
i would say mgm will give that date to floyd because he will threaten to go else where...
i know the mexican following in vegas would be huge but the PR following at MSG would be big for that one

lets see both fight and we will see who sells more ppv and who has more fans..canelo had a good turnout when he fought the night chavez/sergio fought.,and his ppv numbers against angulo werent bad considering both were coming off loses and neither was a champion,,if canelo wants that date he should get it too

If it's Cotto vs Canelo, Mayweather won't beat it unless he fights Pacquiao or moves to another date. Interesting to see how it plays out.

Mayweather has the BIG contract with CBS/Showtime and he also has the MGM Grand in his back pocket. Showtime is gonna bow down to Floyd's demands and HBO ain't gonna compete...

Mayweather probably has the MGM reserved for May 2. But he DOES NOT own the date (MAY 2). Anybody can fight on that day. It just depends where. And more importantly, if the promotional companies and/or sponsors are 100% sure they can compete and make profit against the competition.

Being that it's a MEXICAN HOLIDAY. I think Canelo can OUT SELL and definitely draw BIGGER crowd than Mayweather. Also, think Canelo makes more profit on that day than Mayweather. Doesn't matter where Canelo fights. MSG, Dallas Cowboy Stadium, Mandalay Bay Resort Casino, or UNLV (Thomas & Mac Center). There are way more Hispanic/latin fans in boxing than there are of any other culture. And if you say that's not true... Then why does Mayweather fight on Mexican holidays?

The only way Alvarez will be fighting on that weekend is if he is fighting some stiff on regular HBO an hour before the Mayweather fight starts.
                    Good post

Oscar is letting his ****sexual feminine feelings get in the way if he actually puts Canelo in or around Cinco. Not a smart business move on his part but coming from Oscar I wouldn't be surprised.

But it would be good marketing for him and Oscar if they had that date to work with so I understand that but that doesn't guarantee HIGH PPV BUYS, good match ups is what = GOOD PPV Numbers, also the Ability to sell yourself to the AMERICAN CASUALS because...well...YOU'RE FIGHTING IN AMERICA!

Canelo is not a PPV Draw Yet, it takes more that just MEXICAN FANS to be a PPV Draw here in the US, you have to get the attention of the Casual Americans to pull good PPV Numbers. All of the All Time PPV Buys Records had one thing in Common...IT INCLUDED AMERICAN FIGHTERS!

So the real reason why Canelo vs Angulo and Canelo vs Lara did Luke Warm Numbers, because neither Spoke English and neither fighter was American so Casual Americans had ZERO INTEREST IN IT!

Canelo did not impress those Casual Americans against Mayweather, not even in a losing Effort, he just got schooled and looked like he did not belong in the ring with Mayweather. A Better Show In A Losing Effort Would Have Helped Him As Well!
                    Great post, as usual

Khan or pacquiao? Thats the dumbest question in the world. The only fight bigger than cotto-canelo, is mayweather-pacquiao. End of thread.
