You put the right undercard on this one and it could flirt with a million buys. This may be more appealing to Showtime as they won't have to pay Mayweathers guarantee and can really promote the **** out of the fight. Plus with Mayweather/Cotto you would have the fact that Floyd doesn't want to deal with Top Rank or Arum, who have already said they will be involved in someway with Cotto's fights until he is done.
Exactly. Cotto vs Canelo would be HUGE on Cinco de Mayo weekend. Floyd knows this, he fights on that date for a reason.

Take MGM for instance-they will charge far more per seat average for Floyd/cotto 2 than canelo/cotto. SO assuming the MGM sells out for both (which it surely will) the gate could differ by $2-4 million, which is huge considering the number of seats is fixed. Hotel rooms are more expensive during Floyd fights as well.
Its a very interesting dynamic to me because I can see both sides making compelling points. At the end of the day, Floyd makes everyone a ton of money.

Oscar, Haymon, Arum and Floyd are all involved in that clash -- as the promotional dominance for the years to come is at stake...

Cotto's name is being tossed around by a lot of people, I really have no clue who he is going to fight next. Hopefully it's Canelo or Floyd and personally, I would rather see Floyd/Cotto over Floyd/Canelo, a rematch with Saul would be another 12 round shutout. Cotto has a legit chance to beat Floyd and his best time to do that would be now as he's gotten better and Floyd is slipping just a bit lately.

mayweather isn't fighting cotto in may. cotto is fighting canelo most likely in june. cotto vs canelo was never gonna happen in may.
it doesn't matter who Floyd fights in may, there is no way that hbo and showtime would air ppv's on the same night against each other.
mayweather/cotto 2 aint happening

Cotto is in a great position.
you think mgm would choose a cotto/canelo fight over Floyd vs whoever? its not realistic. they were promoting Floyd's fight while pacquiao was scheduled too fight there. that just shows you the loyalty the mgm has towards Floyd. plus Floyd seats sell for more than any other fighter. meaning that he will draw a bigger gate than any other fighter. it's a no brainer that the mgm would choose a Floyd fight over any fight. plus floyd minimum buys are 800,000. while cotto and canelo have never done those number without Floyd or pacquiao in the opposite corner. so it's not really a hard decision. for the mgm or the ppv industry. mayweather fights trump all fights in terms of business.

But we shall see what promotional camp will eventually prevail...
