They can both weigh 139 if they want to and the title would be on the line as long as they are ALLOWED to weigh up to 154 pounds. If the most a fighter can weigh in at is 147 then the jr middleweight title should not be at stake because it is not a jr middleweight fight. It is a welterweight fight. By your way of thinking Mayweather could easily beat Hopkins for Hopkin's 175 pound title if they fought for the 175 pound title at a limit of 147. What the hell, they would both be will under the 175 pound limit.
Your logic is sound but its just wrong dude.
Your exaggerating my point by taking it to the extreme. If Bhop won the title at 175, then fought Floyd at 160, he could defend the LHW title because neither fighter weighs more than 175. There is no lower weight limit for a title defense.
I get your point-the WBC shouldn't allow Floyd to defend both belts. OK that's a reasonable opinion. But what you wrote is wrong even though your opinion is fair.

I don't know where all this mayweather vs cotto talk is coming from but im not interested in a rematch. its a 116-112 fight everytime. I prefer
mayweather/pacquiao
mayweather-thurman
mayweather-garcia
mayweather-andrade
styles make fights and cotto's style is just enough too make it a hard night of work for Floyd, but that's it.
for his last 2 fights. I wanna see new opponents. no recycles

As they just stated on the final presser few minutes ago, the fight will be at 147 with Floyd's respective belts on the table...
Moreover: Floyd Mayweather will also defend his WBC junior middleweight (154) title this Saturday against Marcos Maidana.
The WBA and the lineal Ring junior middleweight belts are not in the line.
Therefore, even if (by accident) Floyd loses the fight on Saturday, he still holds two belts at 154 for Cinco de Mayo next year...

I FULLY UNDERSTAND there is no lower limit for title fights and I SAID THAT if you would carefully read my posts. What is important is the weight the fighters are allowed to weigh in at. Just because I BROUGHT up fights such as Pac vs.Marg at a limit of 150, Mayweather vs Canelo at a limit of152 and Cotto vs Margarito at a limit of 153 doesn't mean I think they were legal jr. middleweight fights. I DON'T THINK THESE FIGHTS WERE LEGAL TITLE FIGHTS ANY MORE THAN IT WAS LEGAL FOR OSCAR TO USE HIS STAR POWER TO FORCE HOPKINS TO WEIGH NO MORE THAN 158. Just because a fight happens doesn't make it right or legal. Joe Louis vs Conn has nothing to do with my statements because both men were allowed to weigh whatever they wanted to and Conn weighed in light because he wanted to. Get it straight. I know there is no lower weight limit and I NEVER SAID THERE WAS AND CLEARLY SAID THE OPPOSITE. I clearly stated that for a fight to be a legal and correct jr. middleweight title fight both fighters must be ALLOWED to weigh 154 pounds. They can weigh as much below 154 as they want to even if they only weigh 130. Hopkins fighting Mayweather at 160 for his 175 pound title is ok for you but not for me. How the hell can Hopkins perform in the ring like the 175 pound champion of the world if he can't weigh in over 160 pounds? As long as you think it ok, legal and just fine for the world's jr middleweight title to be contested when neither fighter is allowed to weigh in an ounce over the welterweight limit of 147 we are never going to agree. It is a welterweight title fight NOT a jr. middleweight title fight. These groups like the WBA and WBC make it OK even though it is against their own rules because Mayweather brings in lots of money as their champion. Their credibility is zero.

Big Dunn, you keep saying I am wrong but I am not wrong about anything I have said and I stand by the accuracy and correctness of everything I have said on this matter. I am a long time boxing fan and I know boxing history pretty well. These catchweight title fights pretty much started with big money star Leonard when he won the 175 pound title at a top weight of 168. Before then if you wanted a man's title you fought him at his weight period. I thought it was wrong when Leonard did it and EVERY catchweight title fight is wrong including when my favorite fighters like Pacquiao do it. Anyway Maidana vs Mayweather is for both the 154 pound title and the 147 pound title and it doesn't matter if I like it or not. I hope Maidana knocks him out.
