I know hen Kenny Goould was an amateur his father trained him from what I rememeber. Who knows but if a guy has a gym and worked with Gould I would have to think he could help any young amateur. Kenny was one of the bestComment

I remember you talking for a while about Lacy's power not being what it was made out to be Ice.
My issue is that he was in the biggest fight of his career, and he couldn't throw a jab to set up a hook to save his life.
If that doesn't = over rated, I don't know what does.
I never would have thought to see him looking to throw a shot at a time without throwing a jab.
The most important punch in boxing, and I can't recall seeing him try to throw one.Comment

Boxing club partners with Patriots, seeks downtown home

ROCKFORD -- For more than 15 years, Jim Goodman's boxing programs flourished at Rockford Boys and Girls Clubs when the clubs were under Jim Flodin's direction.
Kenny Gould, Martin Love, Talmadge Griffis, Pat Coleman, Ricky "The Wolf" Haynes and several others went on to high-level amateur and even professional success after putting on the gloves under Goodman's tutelage at the now-closed Lincoln Park and Downtown clubs.
Both men are semi-retired, but the boxing program -- re-located to a barn Goodman built on his Edson Road property south of New Milford -- is still vital. And the duo has teamed up this spring to try to make it more accessible to inner-city youth.
"We're going to get a place to bring the program back downtown," said Flodin, who has been helping at the Patriots' Gateway Center since retiring from the Boys and Girls Clubs. "Don't ask me where or how yet, but we're going to do it."
Flodin said the center, at 615 S. Fifth St., has taken on sponsorship of Goodman's boxing club and bought more than $1,000 worth of equipment "with the hopes that we can aid the program and, in turn, it can help us bring that to more kids.
"We need the additional space to do it, because it won't fit at the center."
Goodman, who said he prefers working with inner-city kids, has about 15 regulars in his program but said a problem is transporting them from the edge of downtown Rockford several miles south to his barn. Flodin said the center has been arranging rides and doubling up with parents who bring their kids to the program.
"If it was downtown," Goodman said, "they could at least take a bus to get there if they had to. I could reach a lot more kids, if they didn't have trouble getting to the gym."
Flodin said he has confidence in Goodman's program from their experience with the Boys and Girls Clubs.
"He's the kind of guy who wouldn't put somebody in the ring to beat someone up or to get beaten up," Flodin said. "He's a safety-first kind of guy."Comment

it's like the whole Ray Mercer story all over again. he was beating everyone up, then he got a boxing lesson from Holmes and admitted that he needed to learn how to box again and focus on his skills...... history repeated it's self last night, the exact same thing happend to Lacy.
I like the fact that Lacy said that he needed to learn how to box again and that he thought that he would go over there and knockout Calzaghe. thats what happends when you believe what everybody around you is telling you," you'll KO that guy easy" i'm sure thats what all his buddies were saying leading into the fight.
all in all Lacy learned a very hard lesson, you gotta have more than just power to win against another champion.....Comment

Cong**** on predicitng Lacy was a tool...dont yo think you shgould have waited until after he fought your guy Scotty before you went and mouthed off? In any event your comments really seem to light a fire under the Sandman and give him that extra boost of confidence.
I think you really ****ed with Lacy's mind...helluva a strategy ICE.Comment

its a shame man John dont you think as a trainer Dan failed Jeff by not stop the fight jeff was finished after 3to4rounds...after the 7th 8 th round he was total done....its a shame to see some one get whooped like that his carrer could have been saved with some fast thinking in his corner..they could have faked n injury..like atwisted ankle..hurt shoulder..Jeff def has some sort of brain damage..its a shameComment

ehh I thought the whole lacy pemberton comment was sour g****s, I don't really think his powers is overrated by any means or lacy for that matter. Joe fought a damn good fight and lacy wasn't able to execute any sort of a gameplan.Comment
