I wonder what they think now

"I was always impressed with him (Lacy)," said Scully. "It's not disrespect to say that someone is overrated. If I say someone is overrated right away you say. 'You don't think the guy's that good.' Jeff is a great fighter, but he's overrated in that in the 168-pound class" - "Iceman" John Scully, November 2005

For what it is worth, that is copied and pasted from an article that was online last year at RGJ.COM out in Reno before the Scottie-Lacy fight. Shaw, Finkel etc poo-pooh'd the whole thing, tried to make it look in front of everybody like I was the fool. I wonder if they see now what I saw then? I said it then that Jeff was getting by on a non-creative style that was geared for POWER. I said how it would have been suicide against past 168 pounders Jones and Toney and I think maybe my point will be taken a bit easier now.

I don't think Lacy is the least bit overrated. I think Joe Calzaghe is simply Underrated to the max.

Dude, you have to admit Lacy was overrated. He didn't come close to winning HALF a round in that fight. He was getting thoroughly smashed every minute of every round. Moreso than either of Trinidad's losses. A good fighter would have been able to make it a fight at some moments. Lacy could still be good down the road, but he is more overrated than anyone in the sport has been for the last 2 years.

You're not taking into account how brilliant a display that was by Calzaghe. Lacy fought his fight....and tried to get inside on Joe. When he did, he paid the price dearly...and I don't see what lacy could have done different.

Calzaghe's hands are simply too fast, and he was too smart for Lacy. That's all there is to it.

FROM ICE: Pounding my chest? Nah, scappie. I dont pound my chest on things I already knew for sure. My point was that when i said those things Shaw and especially Shelly Finkel tried to make it look I didnt know hat i ws talking about but it was clear to me from their words that THEY were the ones that knew all aspects of boxing EXCEPT for what happens IN that ring. I knew it. And now they do, too. And you do, too, whether you want to or not

I was actually going to make a thread last night asking you about your comments before the Pemberton fight, but here it is.

At any rate, do you think Jeff still has a good career in front of him? Do you feel that he can bounce back and become a real threat in the division, or in another division, or do you think he'll go out ala Tyson, but without being such a draw? And by that I mean he gets the occasional fight now and again, but for people to see him KO someone, but he doesn't have the sort of draw that Tyson did. Basically I'm asking if you think his career is pretty much over.

Well, there are so many titles out there that Jeff will always be a factor in the game of boxing but this do a lot of damage to him. If he comes back from it (and he could) it is even more apparent now how to excel against him. Hi sconfidence no doubt took a major hit last night and I think the Tarvers of the world are out of reach for him at this point because of it

You wont find a poster here at BS who has been as skeptical of Jeff LAcy as I have (that includes yourself), at least a poster from the U.S....Limeys dont count.

My point is that I dont come running on here to quote myself with some of my prior statements that turned out to be true...I let others do that.
