Comments Thread For: Miguel Cotto Passed on 12/13 Return, Back in 2015

WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) will not fight again in 2014. The four division champion saw action once this year, when he made history in the month of June by stopping Sergio Martinez to capture the middleweight crown and becoming the first Puerto Rican boxer to win four world titles in four weight divisions.

Cotto was being positioned for a return on December 13th, on HBO, from New York's Madison Square Garden, but he announced to his social networks that he won't return in December and is gearing up for a fight in the first quarter of 2015.

Why take such a long lay off before Canelo in May?

Maybe Canelo is not the target. Something tells me that Floyd is the target, for a mega-fight in NYC. Funny how Cotto and Canelo were throwing Kirkland's name around, and it's seems neither is going to fight him. I think that's a smart move by both fighters. No Kirkland fights, no GGG fights, no Quillen fights, just chill and get ready to get paid!

Why take that long a layoff in general? Its not like he has to recover after the Martinez fight. Kinda disappointing really/

Good, I support this decision a 100%. I want him to go a 100% into that Canelo fight, it will be a physically demanding fight. Better not risk an injury... it's time for this fight to finally happen.

Canelo should do the same or they should just go ahead and agree to fight in December / January.

Must suck being a Cotto fan, only 4 fights in the last 3 years.
