That is exactly what happened. This whole rumor that Canelo approached Kirkland when he was hurt is false. Kirkland already had successful surgery in April and was approached in June for a fight that wouldn't take place until September. Dunkin, Golden Boy, and everyone seemed to be on board, and Kirkland was offered a career high 1 million dollars for the fight. It was Curtis Meeks who was in Kirklands ear giving him bad advise.

The whole he re injured his shoulder thing was never confirmed. As even Cameron Dunkin was baffled by Kirkland's demands for more money.
