Mayweather pad work: may be risky in the long-term?

I want to hear your opinions about pad work they do in FMJ gym.

Don't you think the long-term effect of these soft quick touches may be that a boxer gets immersed in implementing the drill in the ring during the actual fight and gets hit with a baseball bat punch and therefore can no longer continue the drill? Lol

I mean Mayweather seniors got caught like that, Mayweather current boxers (J Leon Love, Bey, Badou) get caught like that with their hands low. I think implementing the drill is actually more risky that it is perceived, and it requires FMJ awareness, instincts, reaction and conditions to not get hit with a ****er. They often are keeping their hands low when doing the drill and raising them whenever they see or feel a punch coming. It looks spectacular but what if they don't see a punch coming?

So if you are not elite (i.e. not Floyd) maybe you should just think the drill's long term impact coupled with a sense of false security may lead to brutal KO losses?

Lol, that part of training is for the camera, for show. Showing off, you can tell its choreographed. Hell if he messes up they know where to begin. Broner messes it up all the time. You can't bring in a camera during intense training or sparring, if you're allowed in at all.

And still it's a drill, and I'm pretty much sure it's still a part of training and IS taken seriously although some pieces are choreographed. I mean if you look at counter right hand FMJ throws effectively without taking a step back and the pad work he does - you can see exactly the same drill.

And my point is that whatever you do regularly in the gym will show in the ring eventually be it either good or bad, that's what are drills for.

He hits the heavy bag with some hard shots

I've always thought heavy bag is better training than mitts anyway

They didn't even have mitts back in the day

The trainer can clearly see what you're doing with your feet when you are on the heavy bag

Obviously this doesn't apply to Floyd. He's got all the fundamentals and more down pat.

He uses those mitts drills for reflexes, speed .

I really wonder if that mitt workout actually does anything for Floyd. Roger Mayweather appears to be doing more work than Floyd during that workout, Roger even moves his hands more compared to Floyd.

There was a hilarious segment in Mayweather-Hatton 24/7 where Hatton was mocking Floyd's mitt workout with his trainer. Would have posted it here, but can't find it on YouTube.

The Mayweather pad work is for muscle memory, reaction time and reflexes.
some trainers train the pads for power and full extension of the punches but not the Mayweather style of pad work.
I myself do not think any drill is risky if proper technique is used, and the Mayweather pad work to me is beneficial in some stages of training but I would not use it exclusively, but it seems to work well for Floyd all of the time because that is the only style he uses in training.

Amazingly yes that is the only style they use, it is not just for the cameras

Everybody knows that's why roger hasn't been the cornerman lately. He's still putting that work in. Like I said before, it was just a brief layoff. He'll be laying people out in no time. You know how we do
