    Excuses......Excuses.......Excuses......

what a ****ing joke. All of a sudden it's all about how Lacy performed. Admit the facts....you were ****ing wrong.

you thought Lacy was god, Joe is a bigger god. It's over.

    I admitted it....why cant you?

I never did. I've always said Taylor or Hopkins will beat him. I know Lacy was winning the Taylor/Lacy poll by 75%. I was never blinded by Lacy like some other people on this site.

Are you talking to me, Knives? Because I said Calzaghe looked amazing tonight and probably would have beaten any super middleweight in that ring with him. But the division is weak and Lacy was not as good as we thought. That is where we were wrong. I never said Calzaghe sucks; I said he's old and untested and Lacy would crack that chin. I was definitely wrong, and I'm not taking anything away from a great performance, but Lacy is not that good. With that said, Calzaghe would have beat Kessler, Green, Beyer, ANY guy at 168 in that ring tonight.

I certainly like this post...and could not assume the same sediments by reading the topic post.

And I was not referring to you. I was to anyone who is making excuses.

I think Lacy was just in with a better fighter. I don't feel "let down" by Lacy as much as I am surprised by Calzaghe. I knew Calzaghe was a good fighter, but not good enough to dominate Lacy like that. I think everyone, even the Brits, were surprised.

Any other fighter would have been stopped or quit. Lacy stood in there and took his lesson like a champ, and never gave up. It would have been very easy for him to "give up" and save face... start pawing at his eye, feign injury, just go in a defensive shell and let the corner or ref stop it, etc. Then he could have protested weakly, that whole thing we've seen before. But actually his corner SHOULD have stopped it going into the last 3 rounds, but since Lacy is Lacy, with a great chin and power, they let him continue...because he was still trying and never gave up.

I really hope his corner letting him continue doesn't come back to haunt him. Sometimes young beast fighters just wither and go away after their first real beating, and are never the same. Let's cut him some slack, and cross our fingers he's still there...

I don't think the thought of a Lacy miraculous late round KO had left anybody's mind until midway through the 12th round. Lacy fans were praying for it, Calzaghe fans were biting their nails over it. We thought Lacy's power was that good...but he didn't even make Calzaghe flinch tonight. He only nailed him flush maybe 5 times, but Calzaghe took them well.

I'll be totally honest. It left my head in the 8th? I think. That dominant round where he had Lacy in the corner and almost out on his feet. Lacy never had legs after that, never snapped a good punch after that, never turned full force with his body on a good punch. You could see it just wasn't in him by the 10th and that he was taking unecessary punishment and had lost every round. I was sitting here telling my gf they should stop it from the 9th or 10th on. There was no reason for it because it was so obvious he wasn't going to win.

disappointed but not let down cause lacy proved to have a great heart and chin although he never tried boxing and just kept on for the one bomb all night which too many do. he aint no nigel benn but guess he thought he was with his power cause even if he landed the big punches calzaghe could take several so he needed to put several together

Some guys can change(Pacquiao) and some just can't (Trinidad). It's one thing to get beat by a better fighter, but to be completely dominated in every facet of the fight is embarrassing. I figured by the 8th round Lacy would at least go nuts, firing shots left and right, but he didn't. He plodded around the ring taking blows to the face to the bitter end. I still cannot understand how fighters know they've lost 8-9 rounds and STILL refuse to just swing for the fences ala Corrales vs. Castillo in the first fight (even though that fight was closer, Corrales KNEW he was done if he didn't put a rally together). Lacy should have known damn well he had lost the fight by the 8th or 9th round. The 11th and 12th rounds is too late to start swinging for the fences. If I was fighting and down 8-9 rounds, there's no way in hell I would take punches another 3 rounds. I'd say it's all or nothing now and swing like crazy. Knock him out or get knocked out, but don't plod around and be made into a fool while still taking punishment. I don't care that I was wrong about Lacy, but I do care that he didn't even come close to making it a decent fight. This was a far worse beating than Hopkins delt to Trinidad in 2001. I don't think I've ever seen a 12-round championship bout as one-sided as the one tonight because face it: Hopkins and Winky didn't beat up Trinidad like Calzaghe beat up Lacy for 12 rounds. This was thoroughly embarrassing. St. Pete definitely not in the house.
