Anybody else feel let down by Lacy tonight?

As an American fight fan, I feel really let down by Lacy's performance tonight. He proved he really is a one-dimensional fighter, and we all know how far that gets you. Some guys can change(Pacquiao) and some just can't (Trinidad). It's one thing to get beat by a better fighter, but to be completely dominated in every facet of the fight is embarrassing. I figured by the 8th round Lacy would at least go nuts, firing shots left and right, but he didn't. He plodded around the ring taking blows to the face to the bitter end. I still cannot understand how fighters know they've lost 8-9 rounds and STILL refuse to just swing for the fences ala Corrales vs. Castillo in the first fight (even though that fight was closer, Corrales KNEW he was done if he didn't put a rally together). Lacy should have known damn well he had lost the fight by the 8th or 9th round. The 11th and 12th rounds is too late to start swinging for the fences. If I was fighting and down 8-9 rounds, there's no way in hell I would take punches another 3 rounds. I'd say it's all or nothing now and swing like crazy. Knock him out or get knocked out, but don't plod around and be made into a fool while still taking punishment. I don't care that I was wrong about Lacy, but I do care that he didn't even come close to making it a decent fight. This was a far worse beating than Hopkins delt to Trinidad in 2001. I don't think I've ever seen a 12-round championship bout as one-sided as the one tonight because face it: Hopkins and Winky didn't beat up Trinidad like Calzaghe beat up Lacy for 12 rounds. This was thoroughly embarrassing. St. Pete definitely not in the house.

    nope.

He showed tremendous heart and determination by standing up to that relentless lightning fast attack.

I'm not the least bit dissapointed.

It's kind of easy to tell someone to let their hands go when you're watching from a TV screen but obviously Lacy knew that whenever he threw something he would be countered by 3-4 hard shots. Boxing is the roughest sport in the game, and i can empathize with what Lacy was feeling because the body shots, the head shots, everything took it's toll & he was so tired he couldn't do much if he tried.

so he's still a great champion in your book even though he looked like an amateur against Calzaghe? I don't think this puts Calzaghe in the top 3 or 4 p4p so much as it ruins Lacy's career. Sure, he has a solid chin and maybe Calzaghe really is that good, but I don't see Lacy having much success.

My biggest problem right now is Lacy was talking about fighting Tarver before this. Give me a break. If you think Calzaghe did a number on this boy, don't even talk to me about Tarver. Tarver by KO

I'm not down at him, but it was a very bad performance. I always liked Lacy as a fighter & a person. But I've always said put him against a good boxer, he will lose. He has no defense or any skills. But I was shocked for Cal to win, I've seen Cal fight before & I would've never thought he will be the person to beat Lacy.

Knives, fighting with "heart" is actually trying to win and going out like a true champion. Lacy did not do that and i was dissapointed, although I don't blame him, when he almost gets KTFO'd in the 3rd round it's kind of hard to do anything.

well, all I'm saying is it looked like he wasn't even trying. he had the energy to talk to Gary Shaw and complain to the referee, but he didn't have the energy to throw some bombs? give me a break. if you're afraid of getting hit after losing 8-9 rounds, you might as well quit on your stool and get it over with.

agreed. Lacy showed heart by staying on his feet. He did not show a will to be hit in order to hit late in the fight. If he had shown that will, there would have been a KO one way or the other.

cong**** to JOE! great ring generalship...he never let lacy fly with his short punches and tied him up when he was close. great jab...great uppercut...i hope JOE moves to 175 to start a ruckus...
