Comments Thread For: Team Cotto Will Begin Opponent Discussions Next Week

Gaby Penagaricano, legal adviser to WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs), denies that there have been any discussions regarding an opponent for his fighter's planned HBO televised return on December 13th at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Several names have been bouncing around the press, but Penagaricano says the entire team will not meet to discuss possible opponents until next week - which is going to be their first meeting regarding that subject.

What a *****!!! He waits until Rubio and GGG are no longer available. This fraud needs to relinquish the belt. He doesn't want to fight middleweights unless they're disabled or bums.

Cotto's just looking for a soft touch to finish the year.

He should choose Curtis Stevens. If he wants to prepare for GGG, when it comes to power, and a test, Curtis Stevens can give him that test. But Curtis Stevens power is no where near as good as GGG's power.

He should had picked Rubio before Golovkin did. He's competitive but not at Cotto's league. It also gives Cotto the opportunity to defend his title in 160 with a real middleweight and avoid the critics.

Seriously, I am tired of this ****. "I'll talk to him on Monday", "We will sit down together next week and discuss this", "He's on holiday with his family so we haven't even spoken about an opponent". Somehow GGG never burdens us with this primadonna garbage.

Everyone should just chill. Cotto moves up and expired Sergio falls into his lap, so what? That doesn't make him Ray Robinson all of a sudden. I am not so sure Cotto would have been a bigger challenge for GGG than Rubio. So let's forget the hype and enjoy good fights. If Cotto never fights GGG it's not the end of the world. I'd much rather see GGG with Ward - I am hoping Ward becomes desperate and GGG raises his profile enough to make this fight sooner rather than later.
