  • How many weight classes can GGG move up and be successful?

160 is damn near dead, even if he does get all of the titles he should eventually move up right?? how mant weight classes would he be successful at?? who can he beat at 168?? and at 175?? or even cruiserweight

175 is probably his max. He's already 30 so it all depends on how long he goes. I think he can at least compete with the top 168lbers right now. It's boxing so who knows who he can beat. But he'd probably be a tough out for Ward, Froch, Dirrell, etc...

GGG 168 lb. ruler in 2016/2017.

GGG makes 160 with no problem at all but i think he's gonna move up to 168 in a couple years and rule there. 168 will probably be his max. He's way too small for 175. Just look how small he looks next to Canelo.

GGG will rule 168 in 2016/2017.

He handles light heavyweights and even cruiserweights in sparring so I think he can be champion at 175.

How many weight classes did Marvin Hagler move up and be successful?

Too damn early to say. He's essentially walked through a not particularly impressive MW division in a very impressive manner, but these guys he's been KOing are a very long way from the chumps that some portray them as.

At the very least I'd expect Golovkin would have decent success at the lower tier SMW titles - in fact I think Bika would make an exceptionally good introduction to SMW for GGG. If a Froch fight arises from the recent poll I'd be disappointed if K2 didn't take it - it may seem premature but I think Golovkin has a decent chance against Froch (personally I think he beats Froch in a FOTY - but that's just me and my overeager imagination).

Based simply on his past successes I'd have to bet on Ward (if he ever returns to the ring and hasn't lost a step or two) beating Golovkin - though I say that without having seen GGG fight at SMW, and so - effectively - in total ignorance.

LHW is even further beyond reasonable speculation - certainly he'd be a very small guy in the division, but it's certainly not unheard of for top end fighters to make such transitions successfully. We know GGGs good we just don't know how good just yet.

It's simply too early to tell - Gennady has looked very impressive against some solid MWs, but unless he can demonstrate the ability to beat a recognised top end fighter at a higher weightclass, such discussion has no real meaning.

I think LarryXXX may be trolling somewhat, but the question really isn't that unreasonable. There's not many now who would contend that GGG isn't the world's best MW... so in a way such questions, while unanswerable, aren't entirely unreasonable.

MW sucks. In all honesty, I love GGG, but I doubt his chances at 68. There's a man called Andre Ward ready to pick him a part.

Let's see, Gennady is listed at 5'10 1/2

Dwight Qawi - Stood 5'5 and went all the way up Heavyweight from Light Heavyweight.

Sam Langford - Stood 5-6 1/2 and went all the way up to what now is cruiserweight; maybe slightly above. Started at Lightweight

Roy Jones Jr - Listed at 5'11.. Started at 154 and went all the way up to heavyweight.

Roberto Duran - Started as a lightweight and went all the way to 168; only listed at 5'7

If GGG is as great as some of you say he is, I expect no less than cruiserweight; possibly heavyweight if he goes up against a regular sized heavyweight (i.e. Pulev, Jonathan Banks) someone like that.
