  • Comments Thread For: Garcia: Me and Peterson Can Fight, It Can Be Above 140

Danny Garcia says he’s open to a bout with Lamont Peterson, though the lineal junior-welterweight champion isn’t overly impressed with his fellow 140-pound titleholder.

“If he wants to do it, let’s do it,” Garcia told reporters following his second-round knockout of Rod Salka on Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. “At the end of the day, I’m a fighter and that’s what I do.”

Later, he added: “I want to fight the best fighters. I feel like Danny Garcia, at his best, nobody can touch him. Let’s do it. Like I said, I don’t duck fighters. I’ve beaten better fighters than him [Peterson].” [Click Here To Read More]

The only reason this fight is remotely interesting is because of unification

Yeah, without that angle what's the point? I like the fight, I think it'd be a very good fight, but if Garcia's moving up there are better options.

I disagree. Peterson has proven himself to be one of the top guys at 140 and just because he lost to Lucas doesn't mean he loses to Danny. They are totally different fighters. Herrera lost to Mayfield and Alvarado but still had the skills and style to beat Danny. It's a great fight IMO and would produce fireworks. A unification with Peterson or a rematch with Matthysse are to only two relevant fights for Danny at 140. If he doesn't take one of those two fights he might as well move up.

Yeah, I was gonna say, the only way it makes sense is at 140 and even then we already know who wins.

I just think it's dumb that one's THE champ at 140 and the other is a champ at 140. Unless they're vacating, why fight above 140?

if they don't unify what is the point of fighting? The slightly above 140 thing was already done with matts/Petersen fighting at 141. Danny should just move up already and vacate the title.
