Watching the rematch again, I was surprised how much success a totally shopworn and one eyed Margarito actually had. Cotto only landed like 10-15 more power shots according to the stats. The way people go on about that fight as if it was a beat down in favour of Cotto. He was eating shots and his face was marked up pretty bad.

I agree it was a crappy way to end the fight, but it wasn't some sort of conspiracy from the NYSAC to ensure a Cotto victory. They barely let the fight take place in the first place because of Marg's eye and it was getting hammered during the fight.

They should have either not let the fight take place or just let it go. Margarito was still correctly answering all the "How many fingers?" questions in the corner and was never hurt. Just seemed fishy. They called the fight when Cotto is usually most vulnerable and was in full retreat.

From a professional point of view, they probably shouldn't have let the fight take place at all but they were coaxed (possibly bribed) by Arum to let the fight take place given the condition of Marg's eye. Why would a state athletic commission completely disregard the well-being of the eye given it's previous condition?

It's entirely possible, but that's just not my opinion.

They were very hesitant in letting the fight take place because of Marg's eye so they they were trigger happy to stop the fight and avoid any further damage it sustained. Imagine if something bad did happen, it would be HUGE black eye to the NYSAC and lawsuits could have probably followed. Stopping the fight to protect Cotto just seems like a conspiracy theory.

And let's not pretend we're being objective either, I'm obviously a Cotto fan and you are a known Cotto detractor and Marg fan. We're going to have polarizing viewpoints on what happened that night.
