Cotto fought a different game plan this time. Instead of standing still and trading punches with "no brain-no pain", he out boxed him. Cotto is a very good boxer.
He didn't run, he used lateral movement to keep tony turning, so he couldn't sit on his punches. Only thing he knows how to do is uppercut and face 1st defence. tony doesn't know how to box, or cut off the ring, so what does he do?
Follow Cotto, who jabs, sticks in combo's, and gets out before getting hit. Cotto's was landing more in the last rounds. Yeah, he looked a bit tired, but he was boxing really well, and his plan was working. Had it gone the full 12, tony would be blind in one eye.
