Comments Thread For: Ricky Hatton Eyes Lucas Browne vs. Chagaev, Leapai

LUCAS "BIG DADDY" BROWNE came through his toughest test to date and remained on course for a world title shot with hard fought unanimous decision over Andriy Rudenko in Wolverhampton, England on Friday night (August 1).

Both men made their intentions clear from the start and landed with solid shots. Browne, bleeding close to both eyes from a number of head clashes, took control of things from the fifth round and never looked like losing the fight.

That said, Rudenko was extremely tough and continued to give his all until the final bell. On several occasions, Browne rocked the Ukrainian's head back with heavy shots from both hands, but Rudenko gritted his teeth and never stopped trying.

I was surprised that it went 12 & it was not a bad scrap at all. I actually had it a draw but several rounds were close that I gave to rudenko so the decision wasn't a surprise. browne clearly landed the harder shots but some rounds rudenko outworked him. rudenko hadn't fought in 17 months & he has a sold chin. apparently rudenko was really out of shape during those 17 months so i'm interested to see him get into shape & fight someone else of note. browne\leapai should happen next in my opinion. I know the commonwealth belt wouldn't be on the line tonight but it probably will be if browne fights leapai next. too be honest i'm not even sure if browne stil has that belt. if he does that is 3 belts he has. should move him up both the WBC & WBA rankings. it wouldn't surprise me is browne got chagaev next...

Chagaev is well past his best but he most definitely has enough in the tank to give Browne a thorough beatdown.

Browne is a nice bloke but reality is he sucks & its appalling he is a contender.

he is a clone of lance whitaker. big power, slow as a turtle with little boxing skill. he cuts easily too. I can't recall such a big & menacing looking guy fight so cleanly. never a cheap shot, always touching gloves with opponent, never uses head or his elbows, breaks clean, etc... I don't see him beating any top 20 guys. i'd expect chagaev to beat him handily...

browne is decent but Ive got a feeling someone who can step around him would give him nightmares, he needs to fix his technique so he transfers his weight and doesnt just throw arm punches, and he could do with using angles and leaning off the guy to set up angles, seing as he had a weight advantage but but couldnt make it count.

He is almost too nice. Big, soft friendly giant.

I wish he was better, he is a class act but sadly outside of some pretty heavy hands and a good gas tank for such a big lad I just don't see anything.

Hopefully they get Leapai as I'd like Brownes chances a lot more than against a faded Chagaev who still appears capable of giving most higher up HWs out there a good run.
