  • Comments Thread For: Jacobs: Not Ready For Golovkin Yet, Still See Flaws

Danny Jacobs was brutally honest Wednesday about his readiness to challenge Gennady Golovkin.

While other middleweight title-holders and contenders claim they’re prepared to upset boxing’s middleweight knockout artist, Jacobs has taken a more realistic approach to battling Golovkin. Jacobs, a Brooklyn native who overcame cancer to rejuvenate his career last year, believes a fight against Golovkin “would be huge.” Nevertheless, if Jacobs (27-1, 24 KOs) can defeat Australia’s Jarred Fletcher (18-1, 10 KOs) for the WBA’s “regular” middleweight title Aug. 9 at Barclays Center, he’d prefer to continue building his name and resume before boxing Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs), the WBA’s “super” champion at 160 pounds.

Did he just called Golovkin flat footed? The man who forces people to fight in spots where he wants?

That's the right mindset right now. Jacobs is still building himself to the world level. Go step by step.

I'd love to see Quillin/Jacobs. Too bad the "price isn't right."

As I suspected, the fighters in the U.S. apparently don't have a clue about the "Russian school of boxing"... Or they pretend they don't, because it's so simple to pretend.

I am not on the band wagon just yet, but I do recognize his skill set, GGG cuts the ring off superbly, he makes you exert so much energy to stay away from him, his 1 step is 2 steps for his opponent, very subtle like a villain in a horror flick. Cotto is a live dog against GGG, it would have to be at a catch weight of 158 (GGG said he can go down to 154, so it should not be a problem). Do not dismiss Cotto's body of work, and he does not have to drain himself, and if Roach gives him the right game plan, we all know Cotto follows the plan as good as any fighter. Cotto is hard to hit flush and he can take GGG deep into waters he has never swam in. Present the right package and I think its a done deal. GGG is big for the weight but Cotto is nasty..

I don't have a problem with him not fighting GGG it's Quillin we want to see man up. Quillin was talking mad shhh when he and others thought GGG was just hype, now he won't even acknowledge the man exists. Hell i'd be ok with Jacobs beating the snot out of Quillin too.
