wrestling is the foundation of all fighting because it's about controlling position. Even if the guy hits like a girl, once he's on top of you in dominant position and you just know boxing, you're pretty much screwed.

I like boxing more, but I don't understand guys who think because you like boxing, you have to pretend it's some deadly martial art. It's a sport designed to look elegant, create long drawn out fights, epic showdowns.

It has only little bits of "fight" in it.

as much as i think a wrestler wud win... i can see a heavy weight boxer jab out anther wrestler... like another poster has pointed out on how it is difficult to see a PUNCH coming, the jab from a heavyweight can be very dangerous, no? (rmbr its no gloves too)
also, take down from outside punching range, a boxer would actually be able to see the body coming in and move aside with average footwork.. unlike a wrestler (im guessing, i dont know too much about wrestling) cannot see a jab coming as easily.

edit: conclusion: heavyweight boxers probably have a better chance of beating wrestlers, while the lighterweights... probably dont have enough power in the jab to stop the wrestlers before takedowns.

        I agree.

I think a HW boxer can do some damage vs a similar weight wrestler just because the KO power is so high.

It wouldnt be until after the striker throws though. All strikers try to dominate distance before theyre even near each other. A wrestler can initiate from too far but any striker will move away and have the fast twitch muscle fibers to react faster than the wrestler. Remember, fighters see the tells of movement better than someone whos used to ONLY grappling close range. An average person with no striking experience just does not have the ability, proper muscles or the vision to see a minimally telegraphed strike without gloves. It's too fast at the world level. I have no doubt a wrestler will manhandle anyone they grab but fighting is also psychological. If you're not used to being hit it all goes out the window. Look at Brock Lesnar for example. He didnt have years of fighting experience only wretling and he couldnt cope with being punched. The wrestler WILL eat something before he can get to shoot, probably after the shot and will take s massive possibly vital blow to an undefended part of the head when he uses both hands to drag down. While a boxer cant cope if hes grabbed, a traditional wrestler doesnt know how to set up a takedown against a trainer striker in the same way an MMA fighter can who CAN see and react to the feints and subtleties of hand to hand combat. Any striker has an advantage over a non striker if the engagement starts off neutral on the feet.

          Just my opinion.

street fight? like in the street or hard concrete? is very hard to grapple in asphalt or hard concrete, you'll peel your skin off but if get just one slam on your opponent then it's all over. but i still think boxer will win.

freestyle wrestlers would destroy boxers. they'd shoot for the legs, and the boxers wouldn't get back up until the fight was over [via strangulation, knees getting blown out, etc.]

greco roman is different. you don't shoot for the legs. all wrestling / holding is done above the waist. you see much more spectacular throws in greco roman, but it's not as effective in street fighting against somebody who knows how to box.

Yeah this is a very good point/distinction. I didnt even know of it, thanks. The only ones that will easily destroy boxers will be those that shoot for the legs. Any wrestler going for upper-body takedowns will be in harm's way and that will be closer to 50/50 depending on individual skill level of both fighters.

Anyway, i really dont know, but i believe freestyle wrestlers are a lot more common in america?
