Graciano Rocchigiani should have never settled out of court with the WBC after they stripped him of his WBC Light Heavyweight title to give back to Roy Jones. Rocchigiani should have just let them go bankrupt. It would be nice to have one less belt floating around each weight division, especially when its sanctioning body pulls stunts like this.

World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman has approved a request by Floyd Mayweather Jr. to defend both of his WBC titles, at welterweight and junior middleweight, against Marcos Maidana on September 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather also holds the WBA crown at 147 and 154.

Sulaiman compares Mayweather's historic request to Sugar Ray Leonard's fight with Donnie Lalonde in November of 1988, when the WBC super middleweight and light heavyweight titles were both at stake in the same fight.

Canelo/Cotto rematches at 154, Floyd has 3 fights left and after this Maidana fight is over those two are the top draws. He can draw Cotto down to fight at 154 and Canelo is still their winning and waiting for another chance at the guy who took the real title from him for a reason.

Floyd is going to finish up a career with 3 rematches. Maidana could change that with a win, then maybe a trilogy if he ( Floyd ) can handle a loss and still fight.
