There's a reason he hasn't faced an elite middleweight. By the time he was known enough the only elite middleweight was Martinez. The guy who many believe beat Sergio(Murray) wanted no part of Golovkin. And by the time Martinez recovered from his injuries he decided to fight Cotto instead. How exactly does he get blamed for not fighting elite middleweights.

And even then he's still done something Sergio never did and that headline a card in the Garden while drawing considerably larger ratings.

In Cotto's last 10 fights.....he's only fought two that were truly in the big leagues. That's 20%!! Now let's talk guys that we know that weren't....Jennings, Clottey(so so), Foreman, Mayorga, Margarito(not anymore), Trout, and Rodriguez. That's 70%!!! You can even make a case to add Martinez who was coming off a long lay off and injury.
