It was martinez with excuses and now it is cotto's turn, smh.
Ward has a lineal title and is perfectly willing to give Triple Duck a crack at it...

It sounds like you have a fair idea already but cotto is able to vacate the title and you acted like no one in the history of the lineal title has ever done this when they have.
You so f.uckin ****** it ain't even funny no more. George Foreman technically retired with a lineal title. The **** meant nothing cause he wasn't fighting nobody anyway. I aint caught in ****. I just think youre a f.uckin' dumbass that brings a lotta boxrec arguments and think you're spittin' knowledge. But we can play your game. You didn't answer my question. What's the concrete rules for establishing a lineal champion when the last recognized champ doesnt lose the title in the ring?

      • ITT: Cotto didn't really move up to 160. It's all a mirage

Some cringeworthy posts in here. Jeez. Not surprising 85% of them come from one person

          Lineal championship
In professional boxing, the lineal championship of a weight class is a notional world championship title. It is initially held at some moment in time by a boxer universally acclaimed as the best in the class. Another boxer can win the lineal championship only by defeating the reigning lineal champion in the ring. The lineal champion is described as "the man who beat the man".[1][2] There is no single canonical list of lineal champions at any weight class, because there is no agreed method of what to do when the current champion retires or moves to a different weight class.
Sounds very similar to what somebody round here been saying.

Cotto won't be fighting at 160 so he won't be lineal champ there ... Obviously.

            • LOL!!! Love How Cotto & Co Are Using The "Lack Of PPV" As A Way To Avoid GGG!!!

It's all BS when they justify not fighting the best fighter in the world based on his lack of PPV experience. Last I checked its about fighting the best of the best. So what this tells you is they won't be satisfied until GGG has 3 or 4 PPV fights under his belt, which stretches things out a couple years....so really Cotto plans to permanently duck GGG and retire without ever risking things against Gennady. They'll be content fighting Canelo who they have a slim chance beating, they'll then try to land a lazy, undisciplined, pot smoking Chavez, then they'll claim they need a break, and stall any chance of fighting Gennady because his the biggest risk to them in Boxing; he knocks Cotto out.

I can see the stall tactics coming into full view. We'll have two (2) Middleweight Champs in Cotto & GGG, Gennady will continue to call out Cotto, and they'll make sure the fight never happens.... ie: Mayweather ducking Pacquiao. Just gross disservice to the Sport of Boxing when these guys play these head games. Grab as many weak link belts as possible, and refuse to man up to unify things. It's all about the payday, not who's best. I see it coming.

Calzage "relinquished" the lineal title. Ward managed to establish a title lineage of his own. Why can't GGG do that without fighting the jr middleweight moonlighter?
