If it's the latter he should relinquish the belt.

I love how Cotto fights at middleweight one time, weighing in at 155, and all of a sudden he and GGG are in the same division. If GGG moves up his next two fights and beats Froch and Jr, these same f.ucktards will still say, "he's not a real super middleweight" when Ward's name comes up.

so you dont consider cotto the lineal MW champion?
to be honest i dont, i think he should keep fighting at 154 for the rest of his career... hes already a HOF and doesnt need all this...

whatever. Cotto will fight Canelo next obviously, but then the winner of that will have to fight GGG. and i think because they are both proper boxers, not 'businessmen' they will

              Some fans are so fickle.

Yesterday's fan: **** the sanctioning bodies!

Today's fan: Why is he holding them belts hostage, they mean so much to the sport.

Cotto don't have to do ****, he can do what he want, fight who he wants at the weight he wants because of years of hardwork in this sport and working his ass off to reach this level and to build his fanbase to the point in which he can sell out MSG ON HIS OWN. WBC will allow Cotto to do what he wants because he is Miguel Cotto one of the bigger draws in boxing today. GGG is still early in this sport AS A PRO, get in line be a "GOOD BOY" Pay your Dues and hope that one day you can be a Draw like Cotto then he too will be able to dictate things a bit more. Sorry but Knocking Out a few Decent fighter does entitle you to anything in this Sport, it took YEARS for guys like Cotto, Pacquiao, Mayweather, JMM and other to become a draw in this sport. GGG fans want shortcuts and want him to go right to the top and that will NEVER HAPPEN not even for someone as good as GGG. He has to pay his dues like EVERYBODY ELSE!
                Excellent post

If Cotto is ducking Golovkin, then Golovkin is ducking Ward. Yes or no?
See thanks for showing how forgetfull these fans are,,, these guys all want cotto because they think he's small and weak ,,, I hope cotto takes this fight and beats triple g so these cok riders can say ggg was over rated and he only fought tomato cans. If you're going to call yourself the damn MW champ of the world, then you are a ****ing MW! If that's not the case, then go back down to 154lb. I won't blame Cotto for going back to JMW because he will surely take a horrible beating at the hands of GGG, but don't disrespect the title by avoiding legitimate and worthy competition. Moreover, don't insult the fans by suggesting that a guy like Golovkin is some sort of fringe contender.

It's crazy how Cotto has to take on the whole world of boxers...below his weight, above his weight, cash cows, threats with no reward. But for others who shall remake nameless, " he's too big"," he's too small", " GTFOOH! ...
Even the hardcore fans know that Cotto has earned his position the hard way..FIGHT who ever the hell you want Cotto....preferably Canelo or Floyd 2,,,,,make your money at the end of your career.
