    Cotto has better options

Same with Canelo, I would rather hear Canelo say no, before Cotto moves on to option B also.
not to be rude - but before he choose to fight Sergio Martinez, Cotto was offered the Canelo fight in March (which Angulo wound up getting instead)

it was a 10 Million payday. With that in mind, why would Cotto fight GGG this year for less and risk getting smashed

when Cotto can fight a less risky opponent in December, and line up that Canelo fight in May

do that fight in Australia, it'd be a major event there after GGG just demolished Geale.

I like to visit this forum after a major fight card and last night was a major card. You had two of the leading middleweights on the planet trying to prove they were worthy of a title shot and most importantly, there was Golovkin, possibly the best uncrowned champion in his division. He said he wanted Cotto but I'm not sure if Cotto will ever want him, so this unification with Soliman is not bad at all.

Soliman is a decent name in Australia and a title holder, GGG, by beating him, unifies all but two belts and his claim as THE MAN at 160 lb becomes almost undisputed.

If no Cotto he wants Quillin ... but Quillin will run a mile.
So his only other option for a unification is Soloman.

Anyway GGG fights way more often than Cotto so he can fight Soloman and still potentially be Cotto's next fight if cotto wants it. And if GGG is a unified champ it puts him in a better place for negotiations.
Only thing that is gonna get those star guys like Cotto, Canelo, or even Floyd in the ring is money. And right now, GGG isn't a big enough drew to be worth the risk. His MSG debut bombed last night. That alone will be enough for the big stars to turn their noses up at him. Based on trackrecord, Canelo is the only one I can see "wanting" to fight GGG. But I'm sure Oscar would strongly oppose.

At the end of the day, GGG is the best fighter in a bad division. Its his rite to wanna clean up his division. But as long as he wants to do that, he's gonna be fighting a lotta unattractive opponents. Because not only is he not worth the risk. He has a couple big named guys in his weight range that everybody's angling to fight. And nobody is gonna risk a big Cotto or Canelo payday to fight GGG.

Golovkin already beat two guys whose claim to fame is beating Sturm. Why does he need to do it a third time? Such a useless ****** fight.

Good points. Ggg wants to clean out the division he's gonna have to go on the road and beat the 2nd tier guys until he generates enough money to get a cotto or canelo.

Unless of course cotto gets an ungodly sum to fight ggg in msg this year- like $12-15 mil.

Im not sure Soliman has the pulling money power that Geale has in Australia. If so, make the fight there. But HBO probably wouldnt televise it from there.

Stop matching GGG with Cotto. Cotto is too small for 154 even smaller for 160. Physically there's no comparison between them. Even when them both show demolish power, you can't never compare the power of a natural middleweight vs the power of an inflated junior middleweight. A fight of GGG against Ward would be more fair and competitive if they agree to set the fight in a catchweight.

I think most fight fans have considered GGG the best middleweight in boxing for awhile now. That's why even though I'm happy for Cotto, I kinda wish it had been GGG that took the title from Martinez. That title's lineage traces back as far as the B-Hop-Tito fight. And some may date it back further than that depending on when they felt X was the unquestioned MAN in the division. Now its basically being held by a jr middleweight that probably has no intention of actually defending it against the top guys at 60. Likely opting for fights against the top welterweight and jr middleweight respectively.
