Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach sat ringside at New York's Madison Square Garden, watching WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27KOs) drill Daniel Geale in three one-sided rounds.
After the match, Golovkin said a unification with WBC champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs), who Roach trains, is his top selection at the weight.
That fight appears distant, even with Roach leaving the possibility open. The fight Cotto wants most, says Roach, is Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs). Cotto returns on a date in December, but no opponent has been determined.
