Comments Thread For: Roach: Cotto's Top Choice is Canelo, GGG Possible

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach sat ringside at New York's Madison Square Garden, watching WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27KOs) drill Daniel Geale in three one-sided rounds.

After the match, Golovkin said a unification with WBC champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs), who Roach trains, is his top selection at the weight.

That fight appears distant, even with Roach leaving the possibility open. The fight Cotto wants most, says Roach, is Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs). Cotto returns on a date in December, but no opponent has been determined.

Yes GGG is possible in Cotto`s worst nightmares.

Pac shredded Cotto, GGG will destroy him.

Thing is, he could very well lose to Canelo as well. Regardless of who he fights he's getting punished.

With Canelo though, he not only can conceivably win but he can make it competitive enough to get a two fight series out of that. With Golovkin he gets punished, no doubt about that.

No. That's boring, move on guys. That's why we're getting Mayweather-Maidana rematch. Unless there is definite doubt left in the first fight.

Great Fights BUT Cotto Can't Beat Canelo OR GGG

Cotto has a better shot against Canelo than Gennady. Cotto can't beat Canelo, but would make for an epic fight. Neither would have to go looking for the other. They'd stand right in the middle of the ring and trade. Canelo just younger, stronger would come out on top. Provided Canelo has the kahonies to fight Gennady, and Canelo has said all he wants are big fights, two warriors in the prime, top of their game, this could look like Hagler vs Hearns. GGG just too strong, beats Canelo. Cotto has to fight Canelo first though. If he takes GGG first and gets stopped which would happen, then Cotto vs Canelo loses shine. If Cotto loses to Canelo, thankfully there will be no Cotto-GGG fight.

I got a funny feeling that Roach doesn't want the Golovkin fight for his boy.

How in this world can ggg beat cotto? Just how? Cotto will ko ggg is a mismatch. Now with canelo cotto will school him for first half of the fight than will gets stopped late because even know he is better than canelo he cant match canelo stamina and strenght.
