He fought oscar previously @ 154, so it didn't take much to fight either of those guys @ 154. I don't care what canelo's fight night weight is.

Let's not forget that Cotto's brother, who isn't even close to as good as Miguel is, had Canelo in serious trouble and on his way out in their fight.

You're correct that you can't assume Floyd would beat Martinez just because Cotto did, and Floyd easily beat Cotto. But you also can't deny that Cotto beat a one-legged version of Martinez who would've looked badly against anyone. Peter Quillen and Chavez Jr. would've beaten that version of Martinez too.

Wide score cards does not constitute an easy victory. By Mayweather's own admission Cotto was the toughest fight of his career. Not one person who is unbiased and is actually a fan of boxing would say Mayweather won that fight easily. There is no comparison between the Mayweather-Canelo fight and the Mayweather-Cotto fight other then Mayweather won both, one fight being won easily and the other being a tough win.

I guess after watching Maidana, It's hard to say Cotto was a tough fight, and I had Floyd beating Maidana 7-5. I never saw Maidana wobbled by a punch. Just because Floyd had a bloddy nose didn't make that fight a tough fight. Floyd may say Cotto and Canelo were much better fighters than Maidana, but I say that's pre-fight mind tricks to **** with Maidana, and nothing else. Other than Maidana, Oscar and Castillo, Floyd beat his other opponents pretty easily.

So I guess he knew that he would be fighting Maidana after fighting Canelo after defeating Cotto. Maidana was not a tough fight, it was a rough fight and that's a big difference. Maidana didn't do anything better then Cotto except land more dirty punches. Cotto put affective pressure, cut off the ring,moved around and made Mayweather miss the most punches in his entire career. The major difference is Maidana got more credit for his rough and dirty tactics then Cotto did for his body work and affective pressure. So I guess let's agree to disagree because I only had Maidana winning 4 rounds.

There's a reason why you don't see other guys doing it a lot either, because it's very risky. You might not think it's a big deal (to be 15-20 lbs. lighter than your opponent) but today's fighters do, or else you would be seeing it a lot more often...but you don't.

I agree. Maidana is not in the same league as Cotto or Canelo. And the other thing people are forgetting is the old adage that styles make fights.

We look at it different. if he has fought at 154 and was successful against a very good version of oscar, and held the 154 lb title, where is the big risk in doing it again against cotto come at. Cotto came up through the ranks the same way floyd did. Floyd gets paid enough to fight at any type of weight disadvantage imo he is the P4p champ not a division beltholder
