Cotto fought Martinez at the ideal time and just like Broner/Paulie, he went for the easiest belt he could get at the time. It was sad to see Sergio look like that but he's officially done. Cotto's a great fighter but he's in deep water at 160. Cotto/Alvarez is probably the biggest and most lucrative fight out there without the name Mayweather attached to it.

GGG is the best middleweight at least to me. Cotto however just made history, passed Tito Trinidad and proved masses wrong, myself included. But I'm not mad, truth is I'm happy for him because I've always been a fan, simply thought Martinez was a bad choice. Turned out to be the opposite.

The sad thing is Cotto is no where near the greatest fighter/fighters of this era/generation, but he's fought better fighters than both his betters. I feel that's a shame. He's fought better fighters than better fighters.

Is the bold true?? Is it really. It might be if you ignore the fact that Broner was favored over Paulie and Martinez was heavily favored over Cotto. And the fact that Broner is bigger than Paulie and Cotto is smaller than Martinez.

This isn't saying that Cotto is the best at middleweight. He probably loses to any decent fighter there, that doesn't change who he beat, in the manner he did it and the worth of the win.

No where near? Ok tell me about your top 10 fighters of this era (2000-2014).

I ask because your statement may be a bit too strong. Again, it may be your opinion just want to know your reasoning.

there is a difference between champion and best.

cotto got a fight with martinez bodyt because he brings money to the table.

gennady golovkin is the best middleweight on the planet, and has been for a while. cotto will not even fight him.

Haters won't change their "keyboard warrior" mentality... Cotto is a 4 Division Champion & a Future HOF... Deal with it!

this is how a fanboy talks and thinks.
somebody who actually knows what this fight was is a "keyboard warrior?"

a real fan recgnizes both that cotto is a great fighter, and htat his fight with martinez was a cherrypick. martinez was all done.

cotto didn't ifgh thim when he had anything left. martinez didn't fight cotto because he was the best MW challenger. had never even fought at MW, FFS.

they fought because it was a big money fight for martinez, and a winnable fight for cotto because martinez was all done.

So now Cotto/Martinez was a cherry pick... not what 80% of peeps said when this fight was made, you might be inside that %... remember reading: "Cotto is getting killed" "Cotto will be retired" blah blah... now that Cotto wins & destroys martinez... he cherry picked him & Martinez was no good. Haters

TBF, Martinez shot knees came as a surprise to all boxing public. The fight should have never happened as Martinez should have never been admitted to fight. Martinez needed this money and for sure he never admitted (at least when ppv was sold) that he was unfit - that would be a robbery of those who paid to watch him. He is human, he felt he overcome his knee problem but in reality he didn't, at least subconsciously and therefore never was the same.

A slight update - Martinez now evaluates whether to continue his career or not depending on the health of what? Knees, you are right.
