Floyd-Cotto classic fight

It was a little late, but whatever. It was still a highly anticipated fight and a damn good one. In boxing, unfortunately, not everything comes at the perfect time. It's not like Cotto was shot or anything, and he has proven that. I was super pumped for that fight and never bought into the whole "Floyd's gonna Gatti Cotto" nonsense.Comment

Anyone who has any sense. The fight was the biggest in boxing in 2008. In 2012, it was just nowhere near the same. Cotto, while still popular, had taken a couple of high profile beatings already.according to who? and who are these hardcore boxing fans that you're talking about? i surely hope you're not talking about nsb, lmao. all of my folks/friends follow boxing hard and they were looking forward to this fight going in. i know the bar is raised to crazy heights when talking about floyd but a fight against cotto is a good scrap for anyone at 147-154, including floyd. cotto was past his prime(so is floyd) but he wasn't shot to **** like everyone wants to believe.Comment

so if you were looking forward to that fight you have no sense? mayweather vs cotto wasn't a poor match-up, to say it was is crazy. cotto against ANY top fighter around 147-154 is AT LEAST a decent scrap.Comment

Obviously fans looked forward to it during the build up but no one asked for that fight before it was made. I was looking forward to seeing Crawford vs Gamboa in the weeks leading up to it but no one in the world was sitting around thinking about how great it would be to see them fight before it was announced.
It wasn't a bad match up but come on don't act like this is what the real fans wanted, we just kind of accepted it and got into it. It was what it was; it was two guys that people wanted to see fight but it was years after we wanted to see it.
If Mayweather and Pacquiao fight in May 2015, the thing would do tremendous numbers because they are big names that we all wanted to see fight. But is it really the fight we wanted to see? No its 5 years too late and essentially a completely different fight. Manny and Floyd are still at the top of the division and I wouldn't be mad if they fought but it really isn't what we asked for, we wanted the fight in 2009-2010. Same with Mayweather-CottoComment
