Comments Thread For: Mayweather: Critics Said Cotto/Marquez Were Washed Up

WBA/WBC welterweight and junior middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (46-0, 26KOs) says the critics never give him a fair shake and pour rain on ever significant victory that he gets. Mayweather returns on September 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, in a rematch against Marcos Maidana.

Mayweather said when he dominated Juan Manuel Marquez in a one-sided fight back in 2009, critics allegedly told him that Marquez was an old man and fighting too high in weight. In 2012, Marquez was once again a welterweight and got the biggest win of his career with a knockout of Manny Pacquiao.

      1. have a vote on 2 guys to see who the public wants
      2. pick the guy who comes in second

move up and fight GGG if you want people to shut up

Cotto still washed up, anybody could have beat that Martinez

and no one said Marquez was washed we said you cheated him on the scales and practically robbed him of any chance he could of had at winning.

Dude, Floyd was 148 on fight night in his last fight and has fought in 5 divisions. He cant move up forever. You want him to give up 20 plus pounds in these fights like its nothing and dont demand that from anyone else? G can go up just 1 division and fight Ward but thats too much to ask, right? smh

I think the article should reveal the context with how said Floyd this. A reporter asked Floyd "Any chance of a rematch with Cotto or a fight with Pacquiao?". This was Floyd's response. What he said doesn't have ANYTHING to do at all with what the reported asked. In fact, he completely excludes Pac's name in his response.

This is why I hate Floyd's interviews. Rarely does he ever address what is being asked in a direct manner. He sidesteps and misdirects to the point where what he says has NO FUCKING RELATION TO WHAT'S BEING ASKED.

No one said Marquez was washed up, they complained that Floyd's dumb ass couldn't even make a catchweight against a guy dragged up 2 divisions.

And Cotto was past it. Beating Rodriguez and shot to **** Martinez doesn't change that.
