Comments Thread For: De La Hoya, Lara's Manager Trade Words Over Rematch

MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Tempers were raised when Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya was put on the spot regarding a potential rematch between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs) and WBA 'regular' junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (19-2-2, 12KOs).

On Saturday night, at a catch-weight of 155-pounds. Lara was tabbed as the winner by one judge with a card of 115-113, while the other two scores of 117-111 and 115-113 were ruled for Canelo - who walked away with his hand raised via split decision.

At the post-fight press conference, De La Hoya was asked about the possibility of a rematch.

If Lara would have engaged more it would be canelo and gay la Hoya asking for the rematch . Lara did it to himself . I'm Disgusted .being on the move all night is fine but take more time to stop and throw combinations.

If Lara had stood and fought he could have won over the crowd and probably the fight. Decubas is angry because his chance at A side will not happen because of his fighters unwillingness to take risk. Nobody wants to see a rematch. I would never spend another dime to watch Lara as a PPV headliner. After last night it won't be happening anyway

And people wanted to compare Lara to Mayweather, really makes you appreciate the 37 year olds skill level, he boxed and engaged, stayed in the pocket and countered, lara is good, but he was running and i thought that last score of 117 - 111 was absurd i did feel Canelo brought the fight and took the risks, Lara was getting killed to the body and did not dare to be great, against a A side fighter you have to be brilliant on the night, win over some new fans, show some guts ( like mayweather / maidana matchup) Lara honestly fought like an amateur, like everyone in this day and age say its also a business..

Lara and his manager need to grow up.

The fight was close but Canelo won it by pressing the fight and landing the harder shots. You can't win a fight by running around a ring, flicking a jab, eating body shots, and not throwing significant shots.

LOL at ten people, had Canelo truly won he'd have 3 rock solid matches a FMJ rematch, a Cotto showdown and GGG possibly.........Now that Canelo looked like shyt a Floyd fight is off the table, and Lara stunk him up enough to ruin the luster on a Cotto match............Bottom line the Lara ghost will haunt Canelo if he doesn't address it.....

SN:I would love to see Chino Canelo in the immediate future I felt for years Chino has everything to answer every single question about Canelo.............................

Lara could have been a little more aggressive but you can look at Canelo and his team right after final bell and they know they lost. Don't know what made Lara think he could cruise to a points decision against GBP's cash cow, but should have been no worse than a draw..Lara and Canelo's stock takes a hit after this, escpecially Lara's.

I have box and know how your body reacts to draining yourself as I did one time you have no legs no pop so stop comparing Floyd with Lara If Lara had ask for a catch weight of 152 than yes you can compare the fights If Canelo weighed 155 against Floyd I can guarantee you Floyd doesn't stay in the pocket why do you think Floyd asked for a catch weight when both held 154 pound titles ? It sure wasn't to make Canelo more stronger but to do the opposite. Lara would beat Floyd just my opinion . Floyd takes fights he knows he can win if he doubts than he ask for catch weights to drain a fighter or ask for pillow gloves to zap power away from the power puncher Did Duran Leonard Hearns ever ask for catch weights when they fought for the 154 and 160 pound titles ? Mayweather has become a joke with his demands he sounded like a crying bytch when facing Madaina over the glove issue

He aint try to win his plan was to soil Canelo whlle staying on his feet.....................

A Cotto match aint that sellable now; Lara was a dude that got dropped twice vs Angulo and got better work from Vanes and Molina; this was a lose lose fight, Canelo has to address this rematch ASAP

Lara really blew it. He allowed this to happen.
