Given the history of events i'm going to go ahead and say that Manny Pacquiao did indeed request a catch weight for this fight.

Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao vs Chris Algieri... "The Catch Weight Don strikes Again", that should be the name of the event.

He has cleared out TRs welter stable with wins and dominant wins at that, over the likes of Bradley, Cotto, Clottey and a less than dominant win over JMM.

Of course JMM V makes more sense but JMM has just priced himself out...yet again. So where was he to go? This isn't a good fight by any means but neither is it a travesty on the levels of Garcia/Salka or Mayweather/Ortiz or Pacquiao/Mosley or Hops/RJJ 2. Algieri is young, gifted and tall, he will dwarf Manny in that ring and has enough boxing ability to cause problems for just about anybody.

It's a necessary fight, just not one that we fans wanted.
Everyone loves to act as if Victor Ortiz was in the same place he is now when he fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. The fact remains that when Floyd faced Victor he was holding the WBC welterweight belt and was a top 5 WW in the world, not to mention he was a younger and stronger fighter.

Neither Chris Algieri or Brandon Rios are no where near what Victor Ortiz was in 2011 when he fought Floyd, just stop it.

wonder what the odds will be?

So far on here 29 think Pacquiao and 7 think Algieri in upset....so what's that 4 to 1?....I say they are more lopsided than that....maybe 6 to 1 or more. Algieri was a 5 to 1 dog against Provodnikov so Pacquiao in China with crowd cheering everytime he lands a punch HAS to be higher! Tough for Algieri to get a decision in China?...you bet! I say 7 to 1

Given the history Manny would never request a CW for a fighter coming from a lighter weight class. You better believe this fight will be at full 147. I can only dream this backfires like when Manny made Marquez fight all the way to 147 so that Manny could have the biggest weight advantage.

So what? Manny Pacquiao fought Margarito at a catch weight after Margarito got brutally stopped by Shane Mosley, Manny Pacquiao fought Ricky Hatton after he got KTFO by Floyd Mayweather Jr, Manny Pacquiao drained Miguel Cotto to 145 and fought him after Margarito stopped him etc etc
