Maybe they want to set the precedent of 144 for the floyd fight. Sorta like how floyd already set the precedent for no one using puncher's gloves against him. It's a good idea for the sake of negotiations. Or, they want an advantage. Algeri's length and reach and the fact that he only fights on the backfoot and moves all fight could be concerning for Pacs team in this fight. I actually think this is a 7-5 type of fight for Pacquiao. Algeri's much better than people realise and poses a stylistic problem for Pac. I think Pacquiao in and out movement is going to help him lots in this one.

if they wanted an advantage they would have fought algieri at 147 like how they've been making other fighters move up to 147 to fight pac. its not like they have a problem doing this, they've been doing it for manny's last 3-4 fights. i think they're trying to transition back down to 140 but taking baby steps to see if manny perform well or not.

At 140 Manny would have too much of an advantage. I guess 144 can somehow leave Algieri looking good for another Arum show.

Chris is the bigger fighter even though he fights at 140, you gotta give Top Rank credit for giving him a catchweight of 144 it will ease the pain of cutting the extra pounds and benefit Algieri even more.

i believe pac can still make 140 but its not a smart move to just jump back down from 147 to 140. slowly move his way down. 144 for this fight and his next will prolly be at 140 if he doesnt fight floyd. i think they're trying to see how manny perform first to see if they'll go back down to 140 or not.

I wish I had thought of this to justify floyd fighting Canelo at 152-he's transitioning back to 147 so they wanted to see how he performed at 152 1st.
