This is absolutely the first time I hear of it. And I've looked at that Wikipedia page several times. The fact that Sammy's mother was Cuban only came out with his 2003 biography? That seems strange. But...whatever. I welcome Sammy to the fold. lol

I'm going to leave you with a link so you can educate yourself with the Cuban culture, there will be more athletes coming in the near future and sooner rather than later the Island will be free, 11M of Cubans will be able to root and pay for their idols.

Yeah but the thing is a promoter can't live off just a live gate. TV numbers account for way more money. I'm sorry but there's not enough Cuban American's that watch boxing that can carry the load. It would be one thing if Cuban's can support but they either can't or don't. I know a lot consider the defectors as traitors which is unfortunate. Anyway like you said you can't explain why Lara did that. Maybe you're right and he's trying to show respect. But it definitely comes off as pandering. That's why I really find it a bit hard believing what he says.

Don't be coy and pretend that only this Cuban fighter has been guilty of sporting Mexican attire. Many great American fighters including Floyd himself have done this in hopes of increasing appeal towards the event. GTHOH with your weak sauce.
The difference between them and Lara was they were fighting Mexican/Mexican-American fighters. Lara was fighting Martirosyan? lol Also I never said Lara was the only one to do so. I just said its suspect, and it comes off as pandering. When Floyd did that, part of it was to pander part of it was to entice a reaction from the fans.
