This week was a real eye-opener as to the level of boxing knowledge on NSB. Picking Hopkins to win was fine, he's a legend who deserved the benefit of the doubt.

Comparing Kovalev to Kelly Pavlik and claiming he was a straightforward brawler with no boxing skills is another matter. Either some of these guys never watch that much boxing or they have no idea what they're looking at when they do.

Kovalev-Ward should be the new super-fight in boxing.
    That's something I didn't understand either.

Pavlik was a MW and completely out of his comfort zone at 170 lbs.

Kovalev is a legit, big, strong LHW with legit power in both hands. I can't understand how people thought it would be simar.

        Not really.

Kovalev dominated every round but didn't do too much damage as Hopkins was in survival mode for the whole fight.

Watch the 12th that's the only round he really put it on him, and almost stopped him.

Depends on whether you enjoy watching Hopkins get his ass kicked.

I picked Kovalev to win but definitely not as easily as he did. He definitely impressed me, even though I still think the ducker would have a great chance against him.

I really think Bernard is shot to **** now though. He couldnt close or maintain the distance as well as he could even.a few years ago. And his output was almost non existent. Hopefully he calls it quits now and becomes a trainer or gets more involved with running gbp. He still has a lot to offer the sport.

              • I really want to see Adonis Stevenson fight Kovalev now. Just drag AS into the ring if that's what it takes. Thats the kind of match up that makes boxing special

                • There were some very troubling signs in the first round, that this would be another Hopkins-paced snoozer. Kovalev was indeed lured into the waiting game with Hop. At the bell, Kovalev reaches out to touch gloves! Bad omens that he'd show too much respect and play the pot shot game.

I'm getting ready to switch over to my other recording, "Hardcore" Mansour stretching someone on NBC ...then I noticed that though Kovalev was playing into Hopkins' low activity, low risk game, he was actually WINNING it !

Kovalev had a masterful gameplan of faints, and outside shots that kept him out of range of Hopkins dirty tactics and pot shots. It was hard for Hopkins to time his pot shots with the fainting and fear of Kovalev's power .

While they're waiting for Adonis, feed him Bad Chad! He's done with C fighter after this total domination of an elite fighter.

The game changer was Kovalev being fast enough and accurate enough to score from the outside, and being smart enough not to get greedy. That's what hurts a lot of guys against defensive fighters, they overstay their welcome and get mugged.

Hopkins looked like the same guy that's been there for the last few years. Still hard to hit, but not that explosive when he steps in. He made some bold attempts to stun Kovalev but he knew there was too much risk in what was coming back.

He needed Kovalev to gas but Kovalev paced himself too well. He took his time and picked his shots and once he could do that it was an uphill struggle for B-Hop.

Kovalev vs Ward or Stevenson are the fights to really look forward to now. It'll be interesting to see how Duva manages Kovalev's career from here on. Will he stay busy and look to build momentum like GGG, or will he defend the titles twice a year and wait for the big fights to come along?
