FLOYD MAYWEATHER SAYS HE'S ONLY DEFENDING WBC AND WBA WELTERWEIGHT TITLES

By Ben Thompson | September 09, 2014FLOYD MAYWEATHER SAYS HE'S ONLY DEFENDING WBC AND WBA WELTERWEIGHT TITLES
According to undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather, his WBC and WBA 147-pound titles will be the only belts on the line when he steps into the ring to face former welterweight champion Marcos Maidana this Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather informed FightHype.com of the news shortly after a visit to Fatburger following a late-night training session on Monday evening.

It was previously believed that Mayweather would defend both his WBC and WBA welterweight titles, along with his WBC jr. middleweight title, when his team reportedly made the request to the WBC to defend both of their titles simultaneously. However, Mayweather himself has disapproved of the idea, telling FightHype that he's only defending his WBC and WBA welterweight titles.

Yeah, at the media workout, when a reporter mentioned it, Floyd was totally surprised. It was like the first time he'd ever heard of it. It's good that he changed that himself. Made no sense.

Rewatched the fight again. Maidana won. Just like I thought originally.

Maidana lacks the power and speed to really hurt Mayweather or make a real mark. There was no point in the first fight (just watched it again) where I thought oh man, Floyd is in trouble. Floyd is the ring general here, and it's not even close.

The MX Gloves analyzed by the great Juan Manuel Marquez:

PD: He said that they are pretty comfortable and flexible for whoever used them.

He's not saying nothing new, but isn't beautiful watching the combinations that throw JMM?

Very awkward punches indeed. Not sure how clean they landed. As Chino was quoted in Kevin Iole's recent article,

"The first fight, I think that my attack, the pressure, was very good, but I didn't do well with my distance control," Maidana said. "I think I smothered a lot of my punches. I wasn't able to really catch him with good, solid shots, being able to extend my punches, and that's one of the things that I'm working on.

                      Looking forward to the sequel!
