Watched the first fight against Tyson yesterday.

Holyfield is very overrated. He was one of the worst for dirty tactics such as headbutts and he cheated with steroids. Holyfield was a terrible hypocrite outside the ring, fathering many children out of wedlock while claiming to be a Christian.

He hardly beat a decent fighter in his career. He just had that one win over Bowe, who beat him twice.

Holyfield's best wins were over faded OLD boxers like George Foreman and Larry Holmes, and to SHOT Mike Tyson.

Whenever he stepped up, Holyfield lost, twice to Lewis, and once each to Byrd, Donald, Toney, and Ibragimov. He even lost to Moorer, who never beat anybody else of note in his entire career.

what a fight that is, exciting and just such a big event at the time, I still remember it.

Holy came on so strong after rounds 3-4 and Tyson was getting bullied, I don't think he could take it after that.

This is bizarre, one of the greatest fighters ever, one of the greatest and most entertaining heavyweight champions ever and...nothing. The guy just retired and there isn't even a thread, not one that I saw anyway. So let's make this the official appreciation/retirement thread for a true ATG, a term too oft used but rarely merited.

Neither Bowe nor Holyfield ever beat anybody else of note, unless you consider Hide and Donald good wins for Bowe, and faded old Tyson a good win for Holyfield.
