    Floyd Mayweather vs Miguel Cotto

Why do so many people want to see Floyd take on Cotto at Middleweight? Sure it would be a good competitive fight but I think the middleweight champion (Cotto) should be taking on the contenders that pose the biggest threat like GGG or possibly Chavez. And I don't want to hear the accuse that Cotto simply doesn't want to fight these big guys simply because they are too big because that is a petty accuse to hide behind when your the champion (not that Cotto has said this or anything but I get the feeling that Roach is trying to instigate a match up with Floyd or Canelo who neither have fought at middleweight). Of course Floyd on paper is the ultimate prize as a victory for Cotto but come on we all know the natural middleweights are bigger then Cotto and are a better opposition in terms of size and power. If Sergio was considered possibly too big for Cotto (which he is already a small middleweight who comes in around 157) then how can the champion Cotto be considered as the best in middleweight. Cotto showed a flawless performance against Sergio even though I think Sergio is not near the same fighter as he used to be, but in terms of legacy and respect Cotto has shown it thus far taking on all comers. I just hope his presence at middleweight in the future doesn't revolve around him fighting guys that are less powerful then him like Floyd and Canelo for instance. My idea of Cotto reaching the next level for his legacy is fighting guys that he can't muscle around and relying specifically on boxing skills with bigger opponents like I don't know maybe GGG.

I think you're confusing the word "excuse" with the word "accuse".

Because aside from May/Manny and/or MAYBE Cotto/Canelo it IS the biggest fight to be made in boxing.

I don't know why either..soon as Floyd beats him again it will be called a cherry pick and Floyd will be called a fake champ who took on a none middleweight for the title..so why even bother?

Garcia in the fall, Cotto in the spring. Mayweather technically becomes lineal in 4 divisions at the same time doesn't he?

Yea that is exactly what people would say and it's not like Floyd would stick around at middleweight. If he beat Cotto which I'm sure he would given that Cotto's left hook is not really that big of a threat to how Floyd fights. Basically Floyd would be beating a small middleweight who just dethroned the middleweight kingpin who clearly had lost his foot work which was his best asset and in a nutshell was a broken down fighter. I wouldn't give Floyd the respect of gaining the middleweight championship but I would give him the respect of beating Cotto (which we all know looks much sharper then when he fought Floyd last) just because he's a world class fighter. Basically if we see this fight it's going to be a welterweight fighting a light middleweight for the middleweight belt. I'll respect Floyd if he becomes the middleweight champion if he defends the middleweight championship against a true middleweight like GGG, Peter Quillin, or Daniel Geale. I'd say the same goes for Cotto considering that know one can honestly say that Martinez was the same fighter against Cotto as he was with Paul Williams or Kelly Pavlik.

Floyd needs to beat GGG to qualify for a Cotto fight. Other than that if he fights and beat Cotto, he would have to defend against GGG.
