I always thought Canelo-Cotto could do 1 million potentially if it was in May or September, probably more like 700-800K on any other month. So the notion that these Cotto fans were saying "Canelo-Cotto could do 2 million, easily 1 million no matter what" is just ludicrous.

I understand Mayweather and Pacquiao being PPV fights basically no matter what.....but the other ones this year shouldn't be PPV. Chavez-Froch should not be PPV either.

    I didn't buy Canelo-Angulo, Cotto-Martinez, and I'm not buying Canelo-Lara, and would not buy Chavez-Froch.

And when HBO/Top Rank put on these terrible undercards, it's easy to see why people wouldn't wanna buy it.

pacquiao - mayweather had a profound effect on their ppv numbers, even if they weren't going to actually fight each other.

they used a fight that never happened to promote their own fights. that fight never happening probably generated millions in revenue.

it was a genius move. it sucks that it killed the biggest ppv fight of all time, but they both made a ton of extra money by milking that publicity for years @$70 a pop on ppv.

Case in point, the Canelo/Angulo PPV. That's about as clear cut a regular Showtime subscription fight as one can be -- yet fans had to shell out $70 f**king dollars for it. Pac/Rios was basically paying $70 to see how Pacquiao would come back after the KO (against a virtual sparring partner), and Floyd/Guerrero was paying $70 to see....well, Floyd and once again, a virtual sparring partner. Hell Showtime damn near made Broner/Maidana a PPV fight!! Lmao.
Canelo/Lara shouldn't be a PPV fight either. That's a very good fight, but one that squarely belongs on Showtime subscription. Not a $70 PPV.

              It's completely out of control.
Im sorry, but that CARD was very much worth a nice 30-40 bucks. The main 4 fights were worth ppv. I was willing to pay for the card even before I saw it for free. That was an incredible night of boxing.

This is an HBO caliber fight. Canelo will do BIG numbers around the Mexican holidays against top PPV level fighters.
I beg to differ on your points. Considering this is truly the biggest fight that is/has happened this year, I am thinking this fight will be ordered by more hardcore fans. Two young good fighters with a pretty decent undercard. I seriously expect this fight to do decent numbers, as in close to the 500k mark. I never understood why people hyped the Cotto/Martinez fight. They said Cotto was done 5-6 years ago, but got excited for a fight against someone with horrible knees who is pushing 40? This Canelo/Lara fight should be a fight that gets the hype from us hardcore fans and told to casuals. I know I am ordering this card.

Almost 500k for two guys coming off a loss? That's pretty damn good.

Who the hell really said 2 million? Lol only two events can probably get 2 million pac-may and for the ufc I'm sure their going to do something crazy for their 200th ppv.
