your theory is weak, DLH was the man until floyd beat him then DLH was still very popular and Manny whipped his ass. This catapulted Manny into the the star we know today. Of course Manny's Filippino fanbase matters as well as him defeating DLH, as well as his style. Him being marked as the guy to beat Floyd helped/helps him also.

Floyd defeating DLH,as you said, definitely played a part,but him playing the villain role, maintaining his 0, the 24/7 series etc helped him immensely also.
