Comments Thread For: Dawson Excited To Return: 'I'm Back To Bad Chad'

Chad Dawson was the lineal light heavyweight champ, but he's now low two consecutive fights, both by stoppage.

First, Dawson was TKOed by Andre Ward in a 2012 fight at 168. Dawson appeared weight-drained and there were reports he was knocked out by a faded Edison MIranda in sparring.

Dawson (31-3, 17 KOs) returned in 2013 to defend his title against Adonis Stevenson, but was knocked out in the very first round.

I hope Chad has something left in the tank. Usually weight drained fighters get permanent damage and Chad made a mistake by signing for that Ward fight. This is thee same thing that happened to Roy Jones when he came down from heavy weight and Chris Byrd. The fighter loses his punch resistance, timing, power and speed. You just become a shadow of yourself so we will see.

This guy has all the talent in the world (he beat Bhop and Tarver twice) but I think the knock out losses took his confidence. If the ko's didn't affect him, I still think he's one of the most talented light heavy weights out there.

If the Chad Dawson against Gardner, Adamek, Tarver, Johnson comes back then I don't think he'll daze off. IMO Pascal beat him the worst. Stevenson just caught him with one punch because of Chad trying to be overly aggressive and leaving his hands down, having a lot to prove with the Ward loss where he was weight drained, calling Stevenson "Just a tune up". He probably went in there looking for a KO and got KO'ed himself.

In hindsight it was not a smart move to drain himself 7 pounds and then come back to 175 fight a puncher. He'll be okay if he just takes a real tune up to build his confidence back and get back in to the winning habit. From what I saw with Blades in the Pascal fight, he should be a durable punching bag for Dawson, where he could feel like himself again.
