Former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi, who sat ringside at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on Saturday night, felt Chris Algieri put on a boxing clinic to capture the WBO junior welterweight championship from the heavily favored Ruslan "Siberian Rocky" Provodnikov.
Two judges scored it 114-112 for Algieri and the third had Provodnikov way up with a 117-109 tally. Algieri was down twice in the first round and his right eye was damaged from the first knockdown. By the midway point of the fight, Algieri's eye was practically swollen shut and his nose was continuously bleeding.
