That's because the fight was in New York. When the announcer introduced Ruslan, some of the fans were already booing him. I think Roach knew that if the fight went to the scorecards in a fairly close bout (as this was), Ruslan would not get the decision. By the way, I completely agree with you about the Hagler- Leonard fight. Hagler did more damage to Leonard.
The crowd cheered every time Ruslan threw a punch.
Seriously, people just make stuff up when something they didn't want to happen happens.
