Actually, based on judging criteria, those 10 pitty pat shots are better than one hard one. You obviously don't think those pitty pat shots did any damage, but who says that the one hard shot accomplished anything?
Yeah, in the amateur system, but certainly not in the professional game. You can visually tell those pitty pat punches weren't doing anything. They weren't bothering Prov in any way and they certainly weren't deterring his ability to stalk Algieri throughout the fight. From the fights I've seen of Prov he seemed to easily bruise easily in the face. He looked absolutely clean in the post fight interview further supporting the notion that those "pitta pat" shots were doing absolutely nothing.
Prov's shots were much harder and definitely more noticeable. He moved Algieri when he landed his shots and the damage those shots were doing could be seen on Algieri's face (not just the eye, but the blood from his nose).
You can't assume that just because one fighter is busier he's outworking the other guy. Context has to be taken into account. A boxer can simply be busier by throwing a hundred pitty pat range finders, but it doesn't translate to him outworking the other guy in my opinion.
Algieri landed some good shots, but they were not nearly as good as the ones Prov was putting on him. You can give him credit in the sense that he was able to adjust to Prov's punches and showed the ability to take them better as the fight went on. He certainly didn't land enough "good" shots to necessitate a win. Not even close.
My pre-fight prediction for this fight went as far as Algieri's ability to withstand the type of force Prov was going to bring in front of him. He coped with it a lot better than I thought a relative unknown would, but not nearly enough to get him the nod. Just because he finished the fight standing on his two feet doesn't mean he won. A moral victory perhaps, but by no means an actual victory.
I'm a fan of Prov because he's an entertaining fighter. I honestly can't see how any logical boxing fans wouldn't like him or his style. As far as Chavez is concerned, any hate he gets is justified. In fact, he should be hated more. The guy is just a bum. He's popular because people see him as an extension of his legendary father. If that humiliation he suffered at the hands of Sergio didn't happen he would still be carrying the facade of a good fighter. So no, I'm not going to watch that first Vera fight because I simply don't want to waste my time.
You see where iam getting at though? Chavez jr landed the harder shots but gets outworked= he loses in almost everyones eyes.
Provo lands the harder punches but gets outworked= he wins in the eyes of most!?i just dont get boxing fans these days, they are to biased and judge with hate or love for a fighter instead of judging with their heads....same shiat with people thinking maidana beat mayweather.no way floyd lost that fight. Another thing chavez is just as exciting as provo, how come you dont like him?
I had no idea what fight HBO judge(Weisman or whatever his last name was) & the judge that had it 117-109 were watching.. Algeri clearly outboxed the S H I T out of Provodnikov.

No, I don't know where you're getting at for the simple fact I never saw the fight you're trying to compare this particular one to. I'd have to see it before making any sort of analogous comparison to this fight. Provo didn't just land the harder shots, he was also the effective aggressor in that fight. The only rounds I had him losing were the ones he didn't do as much work relative to the other rounds.
LOL @ the notion that Chavez is as exciting as Provo. Please, I've seen enough of Chavez to at least arrive at the conclusion that Chavez is not at all "exciting."
algeri did zero in the 12th yet one judge gave it to him, oh what a surprise if he hadn't the fight would have been a draw. oops or in judges language good job
Yet you fail to comment on the ridiculous 117-109 card.

You dont get it?? You dont comprehend that chavez haters think he lost although he was the harder puncher?? But you think ruslan wins but he gets outworked and outpunched, but lands the harder shots!? And how many exciting fight has provo had besides bradley and alvarado?? None.. and chavez jr everytime he fights, is a exciting fight... !
I hate to say it, but i think you are a chavez hater, and is on provo's nutts man!!
classic case of underdog who is supposed to get demolished doing better than expected so people overcompensate and think he's doing better than he really is. he was landing very little "clean punches" shoe-shine punches that half-graze your opponent hardly count as clean punches to me. ruslan landed almost all the clean punches to the head and body and shook up algeri many times with his punches. when ruslan lands a punch you can tell, when algeri "lands" a punch you can't even tell if it hits ruslan because he pulls almost all his punches.
Then why did Ruslan do absolutely nothing when he had Algeiri cornered? Those "petty pat" punches were effective in neutralizing Ruslans attack.
The right guy won. You don't automatically give a guy a round because he punches harder.
