Just watched the fight but all I can see is what amazing scenes they were.

    So happy for Algeri.

Close fight of course but I have Algeri edging it.

    Amazing though. Absolutely amazing.

      Rd. 4: Algieri 10-9
      Rd. 5: Algieri 10-9
Rd. 6: Algieri 10-9, close though. Kind of unsure about this round.
Rd. 7: Algieri 10-9, Ruslan looked like he had it early. Too inactive late. At this point I'm laughing at HBO's commentary.
      Rd. 8: Algieri 10-9
Rd. 9: Algieri 10-9. He's smacking Ruslan around bad these last two rounds
      Rd. 10: Algieri 10-9
      Rd. 11: Algieri 10-9
      Rd. 12: Ruslan 10-9

Yeah, I had Algieri winning. Don't need to tally all that up to know. Even giving Ruslan every round I thought he could get, I don't think he wins the fight.
Good score card, Round 9 was really laughable, that is one of the most clear-cut Algieri round and Weisfeld gives it to Ruslan.

Algieri won it. He had the right style for Ruslan and the stamina to pull it off. Either Ruslan stopped him or Algieri won a decision.

Just watched the first 5 rounds with the volume OFF... Problem I'm having is Algieri is a smooth operator and all but the sheer impact of Ruslan's shots has me grading about 7-10 Algieri punches = 1hard Ruslan shot. And being undervalued are Ruslan's hard body shots in the first three rounds. Algieri landed a nice hook that really crossed Prov up that got him the 4th, but Prov landed enough authoritative shots to take 1-3 and 5 (Chris was doing ok in this round but Ruslan landed a hard jab, some body shots, and a shot at the bell that sent Algieri across the ring) ..Chris will have to sweep the rest of the rounds to win a narrow decision. 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12...

He may do it but I find it unlikely. Not really interested I'm on vacation, this fight isn't interesting enough I'm going to the beach. Honestly feels like a drawish type of fight. I have read Chris swept the last half of the fight as prov tired and less impact was on his punches, justifying a preference of Algieri's work rate. Ok fine... But I find it unlikely Chris swept the last 7 rounds.

That more or less how I had it. After the first Provo hands down won the 12. Some rounds were close but most of them were won by Algieri.

Ok, so I scored it for Provo by 2 points. However, I was very surprised with HBO's commentary. Even Ward seemed to flip flop at times.
But be that as it may....

I'm not upset with the decision, though.

                Now, let's talk effective punching...
For me, I define effective punching as landing punches on your opponent to nullify and diminish their effectiveness and gameplan. I didn't see that with either guy last night. Provodnikov landed shots and Algieri seldom slowed down or not punched back. Conversely, Algieri's shots did not stop Provodnikov from coming forward. So the effective punching is not a factor for me so much in this fight. So then, I have to ask myself, who landed more shots in any given round? That's what I had to go by. Who I think landed more per round. Not b based on punchstats either, but who I thought landed more.

Again, although I thought Provodnikov won by 2 points, I'm not surprised it went the other way with 2 scorecards, as some rounds were difficult to definitively score. Especially using my definition of "effective punching" noted above.

Provodnikov seems to have let it go. I point to round 10 or 11, just after Roach told him to go for the ko. He came out more aggressive, throwing more, and at that time Algieri's boxing had no effect and he had to get defensive. This was the only time, other than the first round, that I saw Provodnikov dish out some effective punching and that did not even last the entire round.

But hey, Provodnikov can learn from this...

He young, Bambi (doe). <--- couldn't resist. Hate it when people say 'doe'. So uncivilized and juvenile.

Algieri won and that was one of the most impressive displays of pure boxing that I've seen in a while. His only problems were his eye being damaged from round one and the way he pulled back allowing Provo to land that left hook on occasion on his way out. And also backing into the ropes sometimes. But outside of those flaws he boxed brilliantly and deserved the win.

I remember seeing him do his thing in round 2 and the hbo crew was still acting like Provo was doing his thing, the lesson started from 2 and continued most of the fight.

I can't agree more. I was like, "but wait, who the hell is this lanky dude and why is he so damn slicK". This guy came out of no where and if it wasn't for the luck Provo had in round 1, he may have been schooled in a shutout.

I had it 8-4 algieri . Rounds 1,2,3,7 to ruslan
can we talk about how the cards were in ruslans favor in this fight. Smaller ring helped him cut thev ring off and ward mentioned the soft spungy canvas which would slow down a boxers movement. Yet he was still outboard. Ruslan needs to have his people stick to people willing to throw bombs with him the rest of his carreer
