for everyone talking about provo being badly outlanded and outhustled the numbers were far closer than they would like to make you think

There's no way Algieri won that fight IMO. This isn't Olympic scoring, you don't get a point per punch. He showed great character and won a few of the rounds, but Provodnikov bossed the majority of the fight.

well tha's if you believe compubox which has been proven as unreliable and inaccurate. did algeri make more superficial contact to ruslan? possibly, but the rules say clean effective punching. to me grazing your opponent hardly qualifies as clean punching. ruslan's punches to the head and body had algeri wobbled/doubled over many times. you could see the impact and effect when his punches landed. algeri landed some nice shots from time to time but the majority don't qualify as clean punches to me. although calzaghe scored the fight 118-110 for algeri so he must be right.

Algieri won it in my eyes, and in doing so he got a new fan...I like his completely unorthodox and athletic style. Great conditioning and he seems so calm in the face of such a beast
I'd like to see him against more brawlers

I had it the same as the judges who had Algieri winning the fight:

              114-112

Provo won 4 rounds, and one of those was a 10-7. The rest of the fight was clearly won and even dominated by Algieri. In fact, even the first round would have been an Algieri round without the knockdowns.

The truth is, this wasn't really a close fight. Without those two knockdowns in the first round, Algieri wins 117-109.

I kept telling my daughter, "these analysts are missing this fight, which is playing out just like Ali-Frazier"

LOL @ the notion of Algieri winning the fight. Clearly clean punching, effective aggressiveness, and ring generalship are no longer a criteria when scoring a fight. It's come down to if you land more punches, no matter how soft they may be, you win. It's back to the amateur scoring criteria we go.

It's been that way for a while now - simple activity trumps quality connects.

Ruslans aggressiveness was not effective, Algeiri controlled the fight and he landed more cleaner, effective shots.

I swear people watch fights and just score like

                      1. Ruslan punch hard doe
                      2 Ruslan punch hard doe
                      3 Ruslan punch hard doe
                      4 Ruslan punch hard doe

And then wonder why their 117-109 cards are flat out ridiculous
